MILO Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 I spoke with Kevin at HJR today about my engine work and he said that I should run 110 gas with my new build, so I have a few questions about what I'll need to change or what to expect. I've never run race gas before and I didn't really have time to think about questions about it while we were on the phone. I'll call him back if needed but i figured you guys could help out too. Here's what I'll be running... - Hot Rods 4 mil / Wiseco 795 pistons - Stroker domes - 20 cc - HJR aggressive trail port - 4 to 5 timing advance - Noss head - PC pipes / silencers - V3's - PD Pro Flow foam / no lid - elevation around 1200' Does fuel consumption change drastically running the 110? Does it affect pre-mix ratios? Will I most likely have to rejet? That's really all I can think of so are there any other things that will need adjusted, changed, or things to watch out for? Quote
sredish Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 it's nothing special, just gas that has a higher predet resistance. Won't affect consumption, your build is what affects that. won't affect premix ratios. won't affect jetting, unless you use oxy. Quote
2001Stroker Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 You are going to need a little more than what you can get at the pump, but not 110. If you can get 103 or 104 where you are, I'd use that, and would be more than enough. Check some of your local oil distributors. Usually, they will give you a discounted price if you buy in bulk. 110 is overkill, and just a waste of money. You don't gain any performance just simply using 110. Just like sredish said, it won't effect anything unless you use oxidized fuel. Quote

MILO Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 thanks for the info guys. it sounds like the only big difference will be how it hits my wallet, LOL. can running a higher octane than needed have an adverse affect on performance or longevity for the top end? i'm not sure about availability in my area yet and if i have to travel 50 miles to get it i might as well stick with the guy that's 10 minutes away that has 110. sredish Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 (edited) well, i'm talking from 103-04 vs. 110. no, no adverse effects either way. ideally, you'd like to have the octane of the fuel match the requirements of the motor; 104 or so would probably be a little more 'ideal' but it's not going to really make much difference. don't think twice about it. i run 110 in my wife's bike that would run just as well and be fine with 103/104, no worries. If 110's more readily available than 103 or 104, then just get 110. It ain't gonna hurt anything, or have poor performance because of it. I seen someone's post on another thread last night, saying they were paying like $8/gal for 110, and like $5/gal for 100LL. That's rediculous. That person's getting ripped off. I pay around $5.45/gal for Sonoco 110. But, I buy it in a barrell. You can get them from 15gal to 55gal barrells. Quote
