What would cause my rear wheels to spin when I lift up the rear end while in neutrel? I also noticed that when putting it in gear it won't engage until you start letting the clutch out while holding down on the gear shifter.

with the wheels up, there is still centrifugal force that will cause the wheels to turn. car will do the same thing with a stick., you can grab them and they will stop.
