Gotta quick question....

 

while riding some tight trails my shee will overheat in a matter of 30 mins or less..... I smell antifreeze and see the steam. As long as i got her stretched out and some room to breathe she does fine, no problems at all.

Timing is at +4, 130lbs compression in both cylinders, 93 octane. Jetting isnt lean, a bit on the rich side, 165 mains, 45 pilots, on 28 PWKS unported motor....

How would i know if my fluid is circulating? Im probally going to take radiator off tomorrow and flush it real good and go with engine ice instead of coolant....fins are in real good shape and theres no damage to the radiator...Thanks for any suggestions or help.

Where are you seeing the steam coming from? Is it coming from the front of the bike, or exhaust? It doesn't take much to hurt any radiator. They're made out of really thin soft metals, and brazed together. I used to do alot of offroading with trucks, and tall grass or reeds would pop a hole in one real quick. I carried a tube of MagnaSteel in the glove box, just for that. The fins would get barely pushed back, and the water passages would get pinholes or little hairline splits in them where the fins are attached. I would put a pressure tester on it, and find that leak. A radiator shop should be able to repair it for real cheap. It usually cost me around 10-15 bucks to get my truck radiator repaired.

have you checked your oil to see if its milky? could it be the impeller...

if you have to much water in resavor and your ripping,it tends to come out from the overflow hose near the stem.make sure you dont have to much water in the tank..

yes the steam is coming from the hose by stem i believe....

 

well i actually have another thread on here about the milky oil, yes i did have it but i thought it was due to where im riding at on the weekends.... its a bunch of rock bottom creeks you have to cross and even one trail leads down the creek and we took that route as well. A few other people said they have the same issues with thier shee after riding down there. so i drained oil... put in some cheap stuff ran it artound the yard, drained it, and put maxima mtl back in.... so far so good but i havent rode it much, time will tell

 

 

Tony - yea my resivoir doesnt like to hold any coolant above the low mark, it will spit it out the tube up front, until it gets to the low mark and then itll stay there.... i actually filled it to the full mark today and it was steaming again, so this could be it? radiator is full everytime i check it...

have you tried a new radiator cap?

 

you should see the coolant flowing across while you have the cap off

I'm sure overflow bottles work the same on Banshee's, as they do on cars. It should be at the low mark, when the engine is totally cold. It shouldn't go over the high mark when hot.

 

They do not. Banshees are not a recirculating system like on a car. It is just that...an overflow or catch can.

 

I would start it up with straight water in it...run it and see if you can see coolant passing through the radiator.

If so...you could have a head gasket leaking slightly, bad cap as said...

 

If you don't see any coolant passing, it's a plugged passage, hose...or most likely a shot impeller or stripped gear.
