jamebo Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 I've gotta admit, when it comes to the motor I like the shiny stuff. I've seen a few clutch covers for sale lately that are chromed, and considering maybe getting one soon. I wanted to check and see if anybody was using one. If so, what they thought about it, and if they had any issues with fitting/clearances or the chrome chipping off. Quote
phrog70 Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 ive got them on all three of my bikes and love it easy to clean, and maintian. i had mine done at my local chrome shop for about a buck fifty. as long as he is a good chromer it will last. oh ya dont forget to pull everything out of the cover, like seals, bearings, ecttra. good luck. peterlocal22 Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 ya i think chrome is the way to go instead of polishing an aluminum one because its so much easier to keep it clean and shiny. go for it Quote
PACIFIC NW BANSHEE Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 I've gotta admit, when it comes to the motor I like the shiny stuff. I've seen a few clutch covers for sale lately that are chromed, and considering maybe getting one soon. I wanted to check and see if anybody was using one. If so, what they thought about it, and if they had any issues with fitting/clearances or the chrome chipping off. I enjoy the shiny stuff to .But from what i have come to understand that plating aluminum parts is somewhat tricky and will chip after a period of time .I have had two 40mm drag axles from lonestar that were chrome plated aluminum that were both chipped and looked bad .So buyer beware Quote
jamebo Posted February 8, 2009 Author Report Posted February 8, 2009 Thanks for the input on this, guys. I'll probably end up getting one, but it will be a little while till I have the cash. They look good as heck, hopefully I won't have any chipping issues with the chrome. Quote
2001Stroker Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Polishing your stock cover might be more maintenance, but it's free if you do it yourself. And polished aluminum doesn't flake off. I'm personally not a fan of chrome, just because of it chipping off. All my stuff is polished. I just clean it after every ride, and blow everything off with an air hose. Seems to be working out good so far. Quote
jamebo Posted February 9, 2009 Author Report Posted February 9, 2009 Stroker, you and PACIFIC NW do make a good point about the chipping risk. I've been practicing aluminum polishing recently, I may decide to do that. I had a scratched pipe clamp that I sanded and buffed out a week or two ago and it turned out pretty nice. Maybe I could do a decent job on the clutch cover. Thanks for the info, guys. Quote
phrog70 Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 its still all in the chromer if you ask me i have never had chipping on my cases or axles but my axle sees alot more abuse then my cases ever do. i know any alum. in the rear will need repolished after every ride. to keep the bling up but hey i already spend 4 hrs washing it already so who am i to say lol Quote
