hollisatp Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 I have my timing advanced +4 now and wanted to know how much farther I can go with my current mods? or what gains there are to advancing it more? any danger? Quote
2slow350 Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 I have my timing advanced +4 now and wanted to know how much farther I can go with my current mods? or what gains there are to advancing it more? any danger? I would be safe and stick to what your running. You could end up burning a hole in your pistons if your not careful. You could always read the plug. Also, I wouldn't if your not running high octane or alky.. Quote
hollisatp Posted February 2, 2009 Author Report Posted February 2, 2009 Im not.. just 92... just curious... could I advance if I use 103 octaine? Quote

If you were to going to pay for race fuel just to up the timing, I would rather just put some lower cc domes in it too and bump the timing to 7 at the max, and see if your motor likes it. Oh and you can also ask your builder and he may be able to tell.. Quote

I might have some room to go on my domes.. Quote

I know the gains for the higher compression.. Quote
deckheight Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 Higher octane fuels burn slower thus the flame front in the combustion chamber travels slower. Advancing ignition timing is one way of compensating for the slower flame front so that maximum combustion chamber pressures occur at the right degree of crankshaft rotation. Other ways of compensating would be to increase combustion chamber turbulance with a higher squish velocity or increase combustion chamber temps with a higher compression ratio. Normally the compression ratio is matched to the fuel for a specific application and then ignition timing and squish velocity are used to fine tune things in the combustion chamber. Clear as mud? :geek: whats the benefit of advancing past +4? I know the gains for the higher compression.. Quote
