gsl65 Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 I'm attempting to tune my carbs but am having difficulty reading the plugs. After warming up my Banshee, I ran around for 15 min or so in second gear (cruising). Upon pulling the plugs, it appears that only the center electrode and pocelain has color. The ring arount the electrode was wet with fuel. The electrode and pocelain are dark brown. My guess is it's lean but if I choke it at idle it dies. How long does it need to run before you can get a good "read" on the plugs? My set up is as folllows: FMF fatty pipes and turbine core arrestors stock carbs (I think with 280 main and 25 pilot) atock air box (snorkel removed) +-125 psi compression (recent 66mm bore) 1500 ft elevation 65 degrees starts on first or second kick (choked) Any recommendations on pilot and main sizes would be appreciated. Also, the needle position location would be great. Quote
2001Stroker Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Here ya go. Hope this helps. You need to do a plug chop, to read them good. With fresh plugs, run it all the way to the top of 6th gear, then kill it, and coast to a stop. Then pull them out, and use a hack saw to cut one side of the threads off. Quote

Is the unburned fuel typical around the ring and electrode? How long do you need to run it before you get a reading on the plugs? By the way, the needle clip is on the third position down from the top. Quote
