mun2frio Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 What does the silencer packing really does? I have an idea but you guys probably know more than me, I ask this cause when I bought my bike it had pro circuits without the packing and I like how they sound without it but I want to know if that is going to affect the performance or is going to make it run better. Thanx. Quote

Thanx. i also wonder what they do, i think you just wrap it around the silencer and it makes it less noisy? if so those would be usefull, i live in a residential area, and those would be usefull if i ge aftermarket pipes Quote
lowbuckracing Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 what silencers do you have...If they have rivets then drill them out and pull the screen looking baffles out..Wrap them a few times tightly with the silencer packing of your choice.use a small strand of wire to keep tightly wound to baffle.place back into the muffler and re rivett the exhaust back togother..Good luck. fastbanshee8 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Actually, running without the packing hurts the performance. The pipes, and silencers are designed to be ran together, and the silencers are supposed to have packing in them. Believe it, or not, but two strokes need some back pressure to work the best. Running your silencers without packing screws that all up, and besides it just makes for more noise, and gives people something else to bitch about. Running without packing, just makes more noise, and hurts the performance. The guy that ported my cylinders used to race go-karts, so he has many years of R&D with two strokes, and he said that running without packing is doing nothing but hurting the performance. What kind of sense does it make, to put all kinds of performance parts on, and then run the silencers without packing, just because you like the sound, and end up hurting the performance?? Loud pipes don't mean it's fast. Quote

Thanks for the info. It's people like you, that give all the anti-ATV crowd some more reasons to raise HELL, and shut down riding areas. Many riding areas have already been shut down, for various reasons, but it's stupid to give them another reason, just because you think it's cool to have really loud pipes. If you want loud pipes, stay on your own property, and off public lands, and riding areas, so your actions don't negatively affect others that follow the rules, and use common sense. Quote
mun2frio Posted January 16, 2009 Author Report Posted January 16, 2009 Yo bro like I said you don't give me money to put in my bike, I get the money from workin my ass off so I'm going to do with my bike whatever I want. And since I've been in this sit it's been the same shit, people talkin crap to the newbes, if I posted a question it's cause I was lookin for opinions not for people to start talkin shit. Quote

Plus the pipes you have on your bike now, probably still louder than my pipes without packing, so don't be talkin crap. Quote

Nobody is talking shit. It doesn't matter that you paid for your quad. I paid for mine, but I don't go around doing things with it, that are stupid, or break laws. It's been proven, time, and time again, that people that do dumb things get riding areas shut down. Having a loud set of pipes is stupid. The packing is there for two reasons, and those are, to keep the noise down to an acceptable level, and two, to help with the performance. You appear to be one of the types that doesn't give a damned about your actions negatively affecting others, and that's just plain stupid. You're in the minority around here. Quote

Don't be talkin if you don't know me or what I do, cause for your info I got my bike not to long ago and the only place I ride it is at my boy's private land, and the only time you hear my bike at my house it's because I'm just warming it up for a couple minutes, even when I have to do some tuning I take it to my boy's and doit overthere, cause I don't like to bother people with the noise, and I do follow the law n the rules, always did. So don't talk if you don't know, what I said before it was just a comment. Quote
