Hey all, im soon going to buy a banshee, i prefer to buy a used one, i have a few peoples numbers who are selling their banshees, ( i currently have a blaster).

I went today to see one of the shees, it was bone stock, i have never driven a shee before so its the first shee i have driven, but i have some questions.

when i was riding it, the drive felt abit weird, the accelerating and everything, although it looked somewhat decent, and he said he rarely used it etc, and many times when i was about to go from 1st gear, when i was letting go of the clutch ( i already was moving) it would sort

of turn off if i wasnt giving it at least 1/4 throttle... but after 1st gear, it seemed pretty much decent, so im thinking it has something to do with one of the cylinders or carbs not really synchronized etc, i really cant tell if its just me, or if there is something bad in the bike, i am going to look at more shees hopefully, but i cant really tell if they are running good or not.. i need some help on what are the things i need to test and to make sure the engine is running well.

the bad thing IMO about the banshee is that its got 2 cylinders, which makes problems occcur very easily, anything not identical might make things go wrong. which makes me think, why is everybody only selling shees?

oh and, a question that i have always been wondering about, is long ago, my friend was taking out his shee, which he hadnt driven in about a week, ( which means the bowls arent really full of gas anymore), so he put the choke on only ONE of the carbs, gave it 3 kicks, and it fired up, both cylinders obviously, if he only put the choke on one of the carbs, only that carb's bowl fill get filled up with gas quicker, how is it that both of the cylinders start up perfectly?, if he only put the choke on 1 of the cylinders?

Your first question about the shifting, it doesn't sound like a sync problem or anything because it only happens in 1 going to 2. As far as the dual cylinders, it's not a problem you just can't be dumb for example if you need a new piston in the left cylinder you don't go buy one piston and only hone/ bore one cylinder you do both (not trying to be mean just making an example for you, to show you mistakes other people have made, so sorry if it sounds mean) other than just matching both sides syncing the carbs is really the only thing you have to worry about being off on one side or the other. It's really not that complicated, that's why snowmachine makers have made sleds with 2 cylinders since the 70's. It's just something different you have to learn about. About the choke question, stock banshees have a cross over tube on the carbs, and there is only 1 choke, but once you turn the choke on it flows extra fuel through the crossover into the other carb. The cross over Im talking about it a little about 1 1/2 inch rubber tube that goes in between the carbs, not the metal cross over tube that is atached to the carb boots just in front of the reeds. Hope that helps ya and good luck with finding a shee, you'll enjoy it

just some things you can look for, do a compression test if possible, look up under the air filters see if there is a lot of gas and oil and real dirty. not very many ppl clean all those little places if there dirty thats ok but if there is lots of gunk and looks like lots of oil get the bike good and hot and look around there for leaks. if its never been rebuilt then it will most likley need a refresh but you will know there hasnt been a lot of diffrent hands been in there. bring two plugs with you when you test ride.
