fc3swrx Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 There is no reason to swap your motor out. If you need to split the cases it is not a big deal and you will get lots of help here if you need it. Were your cran sits in the cases is a blank hole that does not go into the tranny so if you need yto get the pieces out of there you can take the motor out of the frame and tip it upside down and flush it out good to get the stuff out. You first need to have someone look at the crank and if it is hurt or not. Unless the rod got really hot i cant imagine it is hurt. ah... see what you mean... Well, I've been thinking.. I think I definitely want to go with a forged pistions. I don't want this to ever happen again. I'm thinking I'd like to go ahead and swap out to some better rods, and that means bearings too. Can I do that without haveing to have any mods done to the crank? Assuming that the crank is in good condition? The cylinder doesn't like to bad, I mean you can see that the piston came in touch with the walls in many places, but it will defintely need to be bored out. What do you recomend? Should I go ahead and have this ported out? And with all that I'm talking about, would it be better to just send it off to have someone do this for me? I'd like to send the carbs along withit to get them jetted to match the new flow characteristics of motor? Quote

There is no reason to change rods unless you have a bad one then if you do have a bad one it is easier to just replace the whole crank. Were are you located at? Do you have a good shop you can take the cylinders to have them looked at? Quote

I was thinking I could just as easily send the cylinders into FAST or something and just oget the pistons from them along with a good port job. I see what you mean about the rods now... Is there much power to be had by going with a stroker crank? I also saw that FAST sells a Woods port job... I assume that would be ideal? Do you have another place you would recomend? I'm located in Garland, Texas basically Dallas. Quote
BUILDER Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 I am sure Jeff would do you as good of job as anyone and from what everybody says he is awsome to deal with and does good work. I would recomend you just give him a call and tell him what your riding style is and he will tell you the best way to go for the money. Then if you have any questions going back together he will be more than happy to help you out i am sure. Or people here will be able to help out also. Quote
terr1bleone Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 my 98 just did this same thing about 6 months ago, concerned with the crank i got it checked out. everything was okay it just needed a .40 overbore and two new pistons. you could easly do this without pulling the motor, just take the jugs off get them bored and clearenced, buy a topend piston/gasket kit and your set. its pretty straigh foward if you have any mechanical experience. rubberneck Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 If the crank checks out, at a minimum get it welded. IMHO if the cases are ever split on a banshee, the crank should be welded. The following pics will show why i feel that way. Im not sure if the crank started to separate and it took out the rod bearing or vise versa, but you get the drift. LoL Be carefull talking to that FAST guy, mine started out as above and ended up like this. JK. Jeff is a good guy and will not sell you what you dont need, unless you want him too LOL Quote
