dajogejr Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Plugs don't lie, if you're doing the chop right. Gearing the bike to do 60 MPH will have you shifting gears more quickly....that's all I'm saying. Yes...when it's in the lower RPMs, you can blip the throttle to get it back on the pipe. But then you'll have to shift to the next gear more quickly too.... Quote

Looking at the bottom ring may be the most exact method, but im not drag racing, as long as its got the brown plug color im looking for, im happy. So, are you saying I will not be accelerating faster? I know the gears wont be as long, but that would mean to me that im accelerating faster, correct? Quote

You will be accelerating faster, you will get to the lower top speed faster. If you don't mind going through gears quickly, than that's the right idea for you. A plug chop isn't only for drag racers, it's for EVERYONE, and the correct way to check the main jets. Your jetting could be spot on dialed in...but it can take time to color the plug. The 2mm smoke ring can be seen after a motor is warmed up on old plugs and then taken for a WOT run properly, then pulled. It sounds like you're rich...but if you're happy with how the bike runs, the worst thing you're gonna do is foul a plug... Quote

pittss1c Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 As for RPM: my trailtech keeps peak. I think the powerband is over on my quad after about 9700, but I have peaked out over 10,700. (a worthless place to be) Quote

(a worthless place to be) YEAH I HAVE THE TRAILTECH VAPOR ALSO. MINE STOPS MAKING POWER AROUND 10K BUT MY MAX RPM READS 11370. GUESS I GOT A LITTLE EXITED ONE DAY AND AND 80MPH WASNT ENOUGH. Quote
Snopczynski Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 I was accounting for a 24.5" tire size at top speed. So yeah, I accounted for the growing tire. Plug chops with race gas aren't real accurate. Usually by the time the plug shows color, the bike is too rich. Its the additives they put in the race gas, it burns the porcelain real clean. Quote
J-Madd Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 If you gear it to do 60, you'll be only be using 3rd through 6th gear probably..so I'd just leave it stock, or maybe go down to 13t and use 1 - 4,5. Quote
