05.Banshee.SE Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I installed the K&N Pods, Toomey T5s, TORS Removal, and put in 300 mains. New plugs too. (Sea level.) 1. It will not idle. (I tried every variation w/ the idle air screw.) 2. The slides stick. (What can I grease them with?) 3. The throttle cable supplied with the TORS kit is to tight. (Might be why #2 is happening.) 4. The bike is running really, really hot. (Coolant is getting flushed tomorrow.) 5. The pipes began smoking. (Because of the paint? Toyboxx will have to let us know about this part.) What all can I look at? Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 Anyone? I'm trying to get this beast back together. Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 Here is a video of it. Quote
gumby6t9 Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Read my comments... I installed the K&N Pods, Toomey T5s, TORS Removal, and put in 300 mains. New plugs too. (Sea level.) 1. It will not idle. (I tried every variation w/ the idle air screw.) You probably need 27.5 pilots. 2. The slides stick. (What can I grease them with?) Did you deburr the holes you drilled in the carbs? You need to do this! NO GREASE! 3. The throttle cable supplied with the TORS kit is to tight. (Might be why #2 is happening.) Too tight? Never had this problem. Try rerouting the cable? 4. The bike is running really, really hot. (Coolant is getting flushed tomorrow.) Is it lean? Did you check for an air leak? 5. The pipes began smoking. (Because of the paint? Toyboxx will have to let us know about this part.) Painted pipes will smoke the first time after painting, or the pipes are really hot because of a lean condition. Hope this helps! Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 It's really close to idling....as long as I throttle up a LITTLE bit, it will idle. As soon as I let off, it dies. It sounds like there might be an air leak, or the slides could be backwards or something. I'm going to rip it apart and look at the carbs again. I'll post back what I see. I don't know which way to go with the lean vs. paint part on the pipes--I don't know if Toyboxx painted them before he sent them to me, or not. I think it's going to be a lean condition instead. Edit-- When I push the trottle, I hear the slides clicking in the carbs. Is it becuase they are hitting the air screws? I had a shop tap and install the screws for the idle/air, I didn't want to mess it up and have to buy new carbs. Quote
hercalmighty Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 What pilot are you running? If the throttle cable isnt working right fix it now before you go and ride it. You might not have it routed the correct way. When you get the cable working right make sure the side are moving right. Did you put the slides back in right? DO NOT grease your slides. I would go up on your main. Maybe try a 350 main. Also what is your compression now? You said you had a problem with it over heating before the mods and the plugs backing out on you. Make sure your not detonation ( I cant spell). Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 Kevin @ Her Juggs said a 300-310 main would be a good ballpark. (So I'm on stock needle position, etc.) I rerouted the throttle cable, that's no longer an issue. The slides are off, and horribly. I'm looking through that manual I downloaded trying to figure out how to adjust it. I might rip the carbs apart and double check the slides. Quote
BlntdEyez Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 The slides are off, and horribly. I'm looking through that manual I downloaded trying to figure out how to adjust it. I might rip the carbs apart and double check the slides. There is only one way they could be wrong Quote
hercalmighty Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I had 320 mains in my shee with T6's and a drilled out airbox with the lid on. You said it was getting hot so you might be on the lean side. Thats why I said about the 350 main. Check that the cut out on the slides are facing the air filters and that you have slides in the correct carb. Check out Nitronate for a video on how to synch your carbs. Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 The carbs are synced as close as they can be w/o a tool...probably like 95% accurate. One of the slides appears to be resting a little, little bit higher than the other one. I'm going to see if they were put in right. I only did 1 carb at a time, so I know each carb has its right parts in it. Quote
hercalmighty Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Then your carbs are not synched. You have to adjust the brass nuts on top of your carbs until they open and shut at the same time. If one carb slide is higher then the other it will not idle right. Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 They are synced, and equal on almost every level. I rode it to the house behind me (getting a tool from my uncle), and around my yard real quick. It's wanting to rip like a mother, but I think she's lean. I'm @ 300 mains now, and I'm very lean to where it won't idle right. Where do I go from here jetting wise? Quote
hercalmighty Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 What size pilot do you have in it? That controls your idle to 1/4 throttle with your air screw fine tuning it. Like I said I would job up to a 350 main and see how shee does. When you leave off of your throttle do both slides sit all of the way down? When you just first touch the throttle do both slide lift at exactly the same time or does onen lift before the other? Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 Stock pilot. I don't have any other jets or anything to switch out, as I dont have the kit, and no one in FL had any in stock. Both slides are a touch off of being closed, then raise at the same time. Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 How about adjusting the needle clip? Could that fix it? Quote
