'04limited Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 ok guys i had a buddy givin me the torque specs after i split the cases on my bike well long story short the studs that run from the top half through the bottom he told me the torque was 25 lb ft when it was actually more like 18 lb ft he was reading the nm (nueton meters) and i was torqueing it and it stoppped going up at 23 and i barely felt it start to give and i stopped.. what do i do from here do i resplit the cases and use some aluminum heli coil or what i'm open to any suggestions that you have. thanks in advance. Misssppelllleddd Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 I had the same problem too but I just had a bad stud. I had it on 18ft lbs and the stud just broke in half. Anyways you should take that stud out. Whether it be the stud is bad or the threads in the crankcase, you need to remove the stud. That way you will know what you have to do. You will probably have to resplit the crankcase halves to take it out and put a helicoil in. Helicoils will work just fine. Just make sure you have the right helicoils before drilling. Quote
