lt1bird Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Im starting a new build. Looking for a powerful trail bike, low end to midrange power without a lightswitch power band. What heads are best, cubs or cheater with valves? What stroke and bore would give a smooth power delivery I was looking at a 10mm stroke, 115 rods, 68mm pistons.... 93 pump gas.. Do power valves really widen the power band enough? Anyone have a setup like this? I think it works out to a 465 Any good/bad issues with this combo or is there a better one for my application? Thanks! Quote

Thanks! you are looking at the wrong setup for a trail bike. i would look at getting a set of oem cylinders with a dune port or some kind of trail port. cubs are not trail friendly at all. i can not speak for the cheetahs for i have not ridden one. they do have power valves though, which are supposed to smooth out the powerband a bit. brugal Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 cubs are not trail friendly at all. i can not speak for thecheetahs for i have not ridden one. Cheetahs are even worse for trails. Port your stock juggs, and get a 4mil crank. Quote
Frogger Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 ^^^^^^^ Do a 4 mil with an aggressive trail port. Quote
lt1bird Posted September 4, 2008 Author Report Posted September 4, 2008 Wow.... 4mil..... why 4 mil over 10 mil? Would a larger displacment engine with stock heads make more power and give larger torque curve? So everyone is saying that the cheater and cub engines will have a light switch powerband.........hmmmm..... Its an RZ type frame for street bike use...Just figured a trail type build would be best, maybe Im wrong.... I was gonna do the 10mil with cub/cheater heads but it sounds like thats more of a full drag engine? I was looking for less peaky street bike engine... I wish i could live with a stock engine but it's just not me... the Stock rz is way to slow..... How much hp will the 4mil with dune port make using pump gas? Thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming because you all know more about this than me! Quote
brugal Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Wow.... 4mil..... why 4 mil over 10 mil? Because you said its for trails. Quote
lt1bird Posted September 4, 2008 Author Report Posted September 4, 2008 Sorry....I just assumed that the trail would be more like a street bike than the dune?? Quote
4stroker Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 i would do the cheetah check this site out: www.rzrd500.com get in touch with seb4lo, hes done it all Quote
STINKYDELUXE Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 i have a 10mil super cub and when i trail ride (not often) one of two things happen alot you either wring the tires or if you do get traction you you catwalk all over. it depends on the trail if its a faster trail and doesnt have all kinds of sharp turns so you can keep a good speed up it's not that bad but if it's a slower trail it isn't much fun. i would go with power valves Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 You would get alot more use out of a 4mil aggresive port on stock cylinders than you would with aftermarket cylinders. Quote
