shogs Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 Hey guys, as the title states im tryin to make my shee a little more comfortable for me around the woods at my house. Right now its got a boost bottle. Just kidding but i'm still workin on getting a stock crossover. Its got v force 3 reeds. its jetted, carbs synced perfectly, holeshots, and one thing that confuses me is pro taper handle bars. I heard pro taper is nice but I feel like im reaching way to far for these. Its also got fmf so cal fatties and the most important thing is the previous owner claims this was an alba racing banshee...so it might have a lot of work done to the engine. What I was thinking was to start with a easier clutch lever to pull, new bars eventually, a metal shifter so it doesnt give, and thats about it that I KNOW im going to buy eventually. I was also thinking about fullflight 2+1's because my front end is fallin apart, and maybe a -2 swingarm. I guess I really just wanna know if these mods would help along with maybe stock gearing and -1 up front. And is that site for 200 dollar -2 swingarms on ebay legit? Sorry I know Im asking 1000 questions I just have so many...lol Thanks Quote
THE GRIM RIPPER Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 Wouldnr go minus 2... Id stick with -1... And there is nothing wrong w/ protapers in my book. And also what do you mean your gonna gat a metal shifter??? Is your banshee on of the rare models that came with a plastic one? And if you want to build a woods bike your first order of business should be your suspension and a nice set of pipes w/ low mid power range Quote

If I was to get suspension you think I should stick with stock width? I have a set of fmf so cal fatties. Not sure how those are but I have pretty good power right now...Now just need to work on getting more comfortable. Quote
THE GRIM RIPPER Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 You could stay stock width with a much better shock but IMO plus 2 front end with better shocks is a better move. I ride extremely tight trails alot and dont really have a problem... I wouldnt trade the stability I get from the width to be more narrow again. I actually am running plus three ASR Arms with 4 and 1 offset front wheels which puts me @ about plus 2 on the front end still (stock front offset is 3 and 2) acouple thing to remember when building a woods bike is travel in your shocks is key. you want your shocks to be able to fully compress and rebound rather quckly in the woods (stumps, rocks, other obstacles) These are settings you would want to change up to ride MX, your gonna set them up stiffer for that. Also, when looking at a arms you want to go with camber/ CASTOR adjustable arms... These two (when set up right) adjustments can make your shee steer much lighter thru the woods. Also, figure out your controls, are your bars @ a comfortable hieght? That is something that can be changed for fairly cheap. Make sure your comfortable with all your other controls as well, your thumb knuckle rubbing on something or an improperly position throttle or lever will fatigue you hands quick. Quote
deerekillr Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 This may sound like a stupid upgrade but since your talking about reducing clutch pull effort I would go for a braided stainless steel cable thats teflon lined. There available at RM ATV and will make a ton of difference over a stock cable and for only about $30 bucks. You could spend $100 bucks on an ASV lever if you want but i've got a $14 lever and a steel braided line and its sweet. Quote
peterlocal22 Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 wider a arms -2 swingarm 2 into 1 carb asv levers hand guards full skid plate on belly and rear keep the rear shock but replace the fronts that should get you started oh ya replace your shifter if its getting flimsy pm me w any questions i have this set up and more. i ride trails and it hooks up real nice. peter Quote
