  1. thanks man! I appreciate the pics!
  2. Im in process of building a trail / MX shee. With the being said, anyone have recommendations on steering stabilizers ? Thoughts on Streamline's product?
  3. Ive recently found some frame damage around the bracket that the steering stem (bearings, bushings etc) set into. The issue is that the threads on the frame side are cracked. Im debating on cutting the welds and welding on a new (good) section from a sourced frame or buying a new frame altogether. Heres the best image I have at the moment : https://ibb.co/P6Tz2wj anybody out there willing to sell me this section? also, id like to replce the subframe as there is a shoddy repair from the previous owner. Anybody have a recommendation?
  4. Im looking to update date my handlebar configuration... I purchased ASV levers for my 2004. The issue is that the asv lever doesnt fit correctly in the perch, nor does it engage the brake light switch. This is a trail bike project and Id like to have all the lights working. You guys have any recommendations for shorty front brake levers? I am also trying to get some protaper handguards to work, any tips? Also, I have a new ASV F3 (black) brake lever if any of you are interested. pm me
  5. so Ive got the bike more or less squared away. After investigating a multitude of potential problems, I found that the case was full of fuel. Heres what I did: 1). I cleared the case of fuel (as previously described) then allowed it to idle for ~10min at operating temp. this got it starting and idling reliably albeit with a noticable pop at rpm. 2). I then replaced the reeds (VF3 Carbon Fiber). The problem persisted. 3). I then replaced the OEM stator for another OEM stator. This resolved the apparent backfire. Additionally, I dropped the main jet to 320 from 330, as it seemed to be a bit rich. (im at sea level) Overall, this has been a righteous pain in the ass.... I appreciate the HQ community trying to help a brother out!!:) My last issue: with the aforementioned problematic stator... The left headlight and tail light /brake light worked and the bike backfired... with the new OEM stator, the bike runs great, but the head light and tail light dont work at all.... btw, it has a new voltage regulator
  6. the carbs check out. though I still have to check the sync... I also drained the tank and got some fresh gas, that seemed to remedy the hard starting issue. Would damaged reeds cause a backfire issue?
  7. yeah, today actually. Turns out the crankcase was full of fuel and therefore (im guessing) was causing an excessively rich scenario. Solution: I pulled both plugs, tied the bike behind my friends truck and slowly (<3mph) pulled myself about 250~ meters in first gear. It hurts my soul to do sh*t like that; but I discovered that the engine would belch out fuel every time i would kick it over without plugs. However, I couldnt kick it fast enough to make any real progress. I got the bike running and idling well enough (still hard starting). Im thinking there is still a fuel build up somewhere...probably in the resonators. Im experiencing a whisp; like a half assed backfire? Im going to let it idle up to operating temp with a fan on it to try and dry things out inside. Ill post what I did and my results later in the week.... On a side note, I really appreciate the community here taking the time to offer up solutions. expecially to a newbie banshee owner!
  8. I replaced the voltage regulator. However, as far as I know, the voltage regulator will only have an effect on the headlight circuit.
  9. you mean the voltage regulator? Im unaware of any rectifier...
  10. me too. The first time I replaced the stator my thought was this: The original stator fell within Ohmic limits but was on the low end of the spectrum at 113ohms. Could it be possible to have an internal short across a winding that reduced resistance but not out of limit? ie the stator originally wouldve had 130ohms and now it reads 133ohms, or something like that. so, I but an oem stator after examining everything else. the bike started right up. now its exhibiting the same symptoms. my thinking is that my odds of getting 2 bad stators in a row have got to be slim. idk bro, Im at a loss as well.... ill continue to post any finding / results
  11. its np. +1 on a billet timing plate. I had these same symptoms 2 weeks ago; I installed a new generator and it cranked right up. I understand that new doesnt mean good. but, the likelihood that a brand new oem stator failed after one right has got to be very small....this is frustrating as hell. when I get into the carbs Ill post my findings, though i doubt Ill find anything out of place
  12. no carburator configuration changes have been made since the last ride. Im runing mikuni tm34's, one cannot install the slides backward as the carb design will not allow it.
  13. I had it running great. I put the bike in the garage before going out of town on business for a week and when I came back, no joy. I started the afternoon before I left, after a wash job as a sanity check to ensure the wash didnt mess with anything.
  14. no reed damage. btw im runner VF3's. the plugs are wet with fuel after attempting to start
  15. gotcha. I dont see a grounding strap other than the one toward the back of the frame near the voltage regulator. Im assuming if a have a nice blue spark than my ground is adequate? Ill get into the carbs tomorrow, though I dont think thats the case; Ill post my findings... the old harness was rotten and had been spliced a dozen times. So, I replaced it with a 2004 OEM Yamaha harness and have ridden the bike a number of times since the install. Btw, the compression comes in a 125~ for both cylinders. Its low, but should be more than enough for the bike to run. Additionally, I ran a crankcase pressure test prior to reinstalling the engine. It held 7psi for 8 hours. So...thats not the issue.
  16. I installed a new coil, leads and boots. I have a nice blue spark to the plugs when I ground them to a headbolt.
  17. gotcha, jw. Yeah, its and OEM harness and stator / flywheel. I started the bike the night before I left town for a week and it started right up.....this is frustrating. Im thinking that this part failure is coincidental. If I had a stator failure, would it be possible to still have spark at the plug? but a no-ignition scenario?
  18. yes it was and I replaced it with an OEM stator. I ran the bike for a few hours two weeks ago with no issues at all; now, I cant get it to start. Its exhibiting the same issue as before. The new stator ohms out within tolerance as well as the pickup. Have you heard of a flywheel with a cracked magnet that still produces a nice blue spark? Im grasping at straws here...
  19. yes. today actually. After dwelling on the data I had collected previously; (see initial post.) I replaced the ignition coil to no avail. From there I replaced the stator assembly, then mounted a new OEM Yamaha stator on a billet adjustable plate (set to +1*) and it started right up. note taken. Just because a stator falls within textbook limits does not mean its functioning correctly. My guess is an internal short in one of the stator windings, producing a very off time scenario.
