  1. Before you removed the head you should of did a compression test. Because loss of compression would lead to loss of power in that cylinder.
  2. Consult with your engine builder to see if they sell carbs. Be sure when buying from eBay that your not buying cheap china knockoffs. When I bought my keihin 28mm pwk’s I bought them from PJ Motorsports. I called them and talked with them and the worked me a deal on both carbs, throttle cable and shipping was $ 315.00. I bought my carbs 2 yrs ago and I don’t know what they would charge now for them.
  3. Yes, I finally got them cleaned out. I did a further inspection and they were being restricted in the lower area close to the frame buy the lower rear a-arm mounts. I took both pipes to my work and submerged them into some Extremely heavy duty parts cleaner solvent and let them soak in it for a couple of days and it dissolved all the carbon build up without me having to put any type of effort into it. I’ll be reinstalling the pipes sometime tomorrow.
  4. I’ve been messing around with banshee’s for a really long time now. When I took on this job it was a non- running banshee for 4+ years. I know that it’s not the carbs. I just recently ripped them both apart all way to an empty shell and ultra sonic cleaned them, the bowls and installed all new parts all the way down to the new floats. I did all the testing ( compression & leak down ) and everything was fine. From what I can see through my camera scope the top of the pistons have a average amount of carbon deposit on the top of them. I even checked and reset the pick up on the flywheel. It has a very fat blue spark. Wiring harness is in great condition for its age. Today I put on a different set of fmf pipes ( SST’s ) from another banshee I’m working on and it ran really good and then I put the fmf gold series back on and it ran rough. I know the jetting is different from pipe to pipe. The packing in the silencers look to be good condition. I also installed some boyesen super stock carbon fiber reeds and intake gaskets because the reed pedals that were on there were brittle. It has a fresh tank of 93 octane and casters 927 mixed 32:1. So as of right now I’m stumped over this. Anyone can chime in with there opinion on this issue. Thanks @DeetsI tried to talk him into a the exhaust system you have for sale and I even showed him what they looked like but he’s said no dice. He said fishing season is coming soon.
  5. Good evening everyone, I am currently working on a 1995 banshee with FMF gold series pipes. According to the owner he had the exhaust system put on when he bought it brand new. The problem I’m having is trying to get it running properly. I thought from sitting for 4+ years that a mouse found its way into the exhaust so I took it apart and first checked the silencers and they were clear when I blew compressed air through them. I then removed the pipes and inspected both exhaust ports on each cylinder and they were ok with minimum carbon build up. I then moved on to the pipes and blew compressed air through them and they weren’t clogged either but, I did notice inside the pipes that they have an excessive amount of carbon build up. I did a google search on it and it shows a few ways to remove the exhaust carbon build up but, I’m trying to avoid doing it the way they are showing it being done. I did think about getting my fire pit nice and hot and just laying the pipes in my fire pit and see if that will work. The only thing I’m worried about is ruining the finish on the pipes. I already explained to the owner that he might need a new set of pipes and he said that it’s not in his budget right now. So I’m just trying to find another opinion on removing the carbon build up. If anyone has an idea about this issue please post below. Thanks
  6. Ok, I got a bit more information from the owner of this banshee I’m working on and last time he actually rode it was back when he lived in Salem,Oregon in 2015. His work relocated him to the east coast and put the banshee in the back of his garage. He didn’t think anyone in the neighborhood had atv’s or dirt bike until he noticed me working on mine in front of my garage. This morning I went to Harbor Freight and bought a 2.5 liter ultrasonic cleaner. So I ripped the carbs completely apart until they were a empty shell and I will be soaking them and a few other parts as well. I did a compression test both cylinders were 140 left cylinder 142 on the right. Leak down test came out good it held 6 psi for 6 minutes with just a tiny leak by one of the intake bolts that I just tighten it up a tad bit and it stopped leaking. Both Crank seals are good and not leaking. Removed flywheel and cleaned the stator and re-adjusted the pick up. Other parts I also ordered 2 shindy carbs rebuild kits, a new OEM fuel petcock,Fuel line and vent tube line. I also have to flush the fuel tank out. I also have to do a coolant flush and change the trans fluid. 2 new spark plugs as well. Here’s the information about the Stock carbs I’m working on. Pilot Jet - 32.5 Main Jet - 300 Air Mixture Screw - 1.5 Turns Out Needle & Clip - Stock Needle - Clip is on the 4th groove from the top. I hope this information helps you get spot on with jetting or some what really close. Keep us posted on the outcome.
  7. If throttle issue is from idle to 1/8 throttle then your problem is in either your pilot jet or pilot air screw setting. Your outside temps will make it a little bit harder to figure things out because it’s probably jetted for warmer outside temps. I’ll be working on a banshee the next couple of days that has stock carbs with the TORS removed and it has FMF Gold series pipes and K&N filter. I have to rip the carbs apart and completely rebuild them if there not shot. I’ll see what the jetting is and I’ll post what’s pilots, mains jets are and air screw setting is. The guy told me before he put the banshee away it ran like a rapped ape with no hesitation.
  8. First thing I would do is a leak down test. That will tell you a lot. You could be leaking around your reeds cages, your intake boots could have small cracks, the base gasket on the cylinders could be leaking or the crankshaft seals could be leaking. Without doing a leak down test you could be fighting yourself fixing your problem. If you go onto YouTube and search for South Texas Banshee he has a channel on there that explains and shows different types of banshee repairs. He has one showing how to do a leak down test. To check if there is something wrong with the carbs you could go down to your local auto parts store or Walmart and buy a can of starting fluid. Start it up and get it up to operational temp and while letting it idle take the starting fluid and spray it on the carbs watching the area that you are spraying and that the starting fluid will affect the way it’s idling. ( it may cause it to either rev up or stall out! ) You can also do the same thing around the base of the cylinders and around the intake area as well. You can go to you local hardware store and buy the items to build your own leak down tester for a few dollars and use a bicycle pump to do the test.
  9. What I would do is give the repair shop a call tomorrow and give them until Friday to get it running right and if not then pull it out of there before they start running up your bill up. There’s plenty of good people here with experience and excellent knowledge about the Banshee. Everyone here probably started the same way you are. You just have to have a little patiences when working on something and when something doesn’t go right you just have to step back for a few minutes and take a breather and connect with your thoughts. I just got done working on a guys banshee that lives down the street from me and his was doing the same exact thing as your is doing. His banshee was sitting in the back of his garage for 4 years and he didn’t prep it before he put it away for that period of time. If you decide to get your banshee out of the shop and need help I’ll be more than glad to assist you on getting it running again.

  12. I grew up in the area where East Coast ATV was. The word around town was he got caught stealing his own customers atv’s then turning around and selling them for parts online and at his business and he also got caught for committing insurance fraud as well. I believe that Dave is still sitting in prison. I know after Dave got arrested the Pa State police closed him down the stuff just sat there until the bucks county put a couple of huge rolloff dumpsters on the property and cleaned the place out.
