What would Failed crank case seal symptoms be ?

Well the filter was REALLY damp after I washed it, which hasn't happened before, not sure if it was still wet from the weekend rains. But the question is still out there; What are some symptoms of blown crank case seals besides white smoke and water in the crankcase ??? Thanks -

Maybe broken reed peddle -
So, bike ran great all season, then on the last ride of the last trip stopped to have a beer and it wouldn't start.Bumped it and it ran fine. Got back to Camp & wouldn't start, put new plugs in and fired right up, continued ride, stopped for another beer, wouldn't start. Got home suspecting worn rings but compression test read 126 both sides same as beginning of the season.Friends said they noticed a lot of smoke when I bumped it. I know a leak-down test is in order but just wondering if bad seals would keep it from firing. *it rained and I had lid off, filter might've been wet. *maybe I f'd up the gas mix. *broken reed peddle even though they were new at the start of the season.

Thanks so much Sheer

So the bike will be running richer with the lid on... CORRECT.
-
So less air (lid on ) is more fuel .....which is richer ?? I know this is as dumb as dumb gets...That's why the call me The Noob

All those have been done WITH Fmf fatties.. LID ON... will I be running leaner or richer.?
-
The main reason I'm asking this question is my relatively stock bike seems to be more responsive off idle in the garage with the airbox lid on. I want to try it out on a full ride but don't want to blow up my motor, so I want to be absolutely sure that running with the air box lid WON'T lean the bike out & I'm too stupid to figure it out on my own..

BECAUSE...I've taken the carbs off 20+ times to 're-jet it, and yes the carbs are synched, and yes I did a compression check, and yes I did a plug chop, and yes I've been riding dirt bikes since 1977 and no I'm not an expert on Banshee jetting...yet

So just to be clear... If I run it with the lid on, I'll be running richer ? Thanks for responding to this elementary post,

3rd clip @ Glamis which is at or slightly below sea level
-
I whole heartedly disagree with the pilot jet. I went from 25 ( which a Toomey representative insisted on) all the way to 35

No boost bottle ...... or Amp link

I'm finding through MANY trials and error's changing jetting, that my relatively stock banshee with Pipes and reeds was Not responsive off idle with the K&N open box set up. I'm well aware that the K&N breathes better providing more HP, but I found that the Proline Foam provides better off idle snap than the K&N with stock carbs (trust me I tried every conceivable jetting configuration) and even better throttle response with the lid ON. My question is; with the Lid On will that effectively make the bike run Leaner or richer (less, air less gas-more air more gas) I'm confused !!

***Update to help others*** Went with the setting 300 main, 27.5 pilot, Toomey needle 4th clip, Proline Foam-no lid, and back to 14-41 gearing. Still not responsive off idle and trouble pulling sixth, but better ! Switched to stock needle & bammo. I tried every conceivable setup to get those Toomey needles right ( I paid $50 for them & really wanted them to work) but just couldn't get them to work with my relatively stock setup. This is the SECOND time I've tried aftermarket needles with poor results. Stick with stock needles if you run stock carbs !!

Perfect, that's Exactly what I was gonna do.

Yeah I saw that and tried the 260 when trying to get it crisper, didn't help. I used the jetting spec sheet on this site and came up with 30-300. Had the K&N w/no lid and the worksheet said 340 main ? But I've seen EVERY jetting recommendation on EVERY forum and most everybody says 290-310.. 27.5 or 30 with my setup and sea level. Pilot jet is on the low end of the circuit, how would going up to 30 help with 6th gear bog ?
-
The jetting I have in their now is Toomey specs even though I have FMF pipes, I talked to Toomey customer service and this was there recommendation- 290 main 25pilot Toomey needle 4th clip. It ran a bit better with 330, 30, stock needle in 4th clip @ 40:1. Gonna change to 300main 30pilot Pro design foam with lid on..My friends Banshee with T6 and foam filter with lid on ( unsure of jetting) and Tors on, is the only bike in our group that's crisp from takeoff and can pull all gears no problem. The guy he bought it from ( another friend) swears its stock besides the Toomey's and pro design foam filter. The question is still out there; why cant I pull 6th gear on sand highway ? is it strictly jetting (fat or lean) or is a relatively stock banshee not capable of pulling sixth gear. Thanks so much.
-
First post. Was at Glamis and couldn't pull 6th gear on flat ground. Talked to other banshee owners in my group with similar mods and they report same problem. Question is; is this normal or abnormal for lightly modded banshee ? 13/ 41, Sand skate, Fatties, K&N, no lid, Boyesen reeds, Yamalube 32:1 50/50 110, 290-25 Toomey needle 4th position 126 compression , not performed leak down. Had bike dyno tuned at Alba when purchased from friend With 330main 30 pilot ...146hp. Been dicking with jetting ever since because still cant get crisp response at takeoff or pull 6th gear. Any response or input much appreciated. .
