  1. Went for a short ride yesterday since the weather was decent up here. Lost a spark arrestor on my T5, couldn't find it. Started heading back very slowly so the packing didn't blow out, and my oil plug rattled out.

I knew the set screw in the silencer would go eventually. I've lost & found it 3 times but this time she's gone forever lol. I don't know if toomey had a brain fart with that design but a couple of set screws doesn't sound like the best way to secure an $80 spark arrestor. Or maybe someone "customized" the silencers, no idea.

I ordered a new plug through my local powersports store and it will most likely be here Tuesday, but I need to do some jetting changes and need a temporary plug.

So, does anyone know the thread size!?

And if you know anything about T5's what should I do about the spark arrestor?

This is a frame up rebuild of an 88. I'm not trying to compromise because I'm impatient, but also not trying to buy an $80 spark arrestor that will fall off. I have the "tea cup" looking ones, they came on the bike and I've been wanting to change to a low or mid range pipe eventually. I know people that have throw fmf silencers on but I feel like the two pipes are too different and will effect performance.

    Any help will be appreciated.

  2. Orange is pos, black is neg. when you installed the new coil, do you have spark every kick or is it intermittent? (Every once in a while)

Like ginger said, check your flywheel and pick up gap. Pull the stator cover off (left side) there's a little black box. There's 2 tabs on the outside of the flywheel. When the tab passes the pick up coil there should be just a small gap between the two. I think it's supposed to be .018 or right around there anyway.

  3. I actually got rid of the bike without resolving it. I'm pretty sure the top end was shop. The cylinder that wasn't firing had low compression. I was tired of messing with it so I just sold it. I don't think 2 strokes are for me... I love riding them but I'm not very fond of working on them lol

I know what you mean brotha! This site has an incredible amount of info. Every problem that has ever existed on a banshee with a thousand answers as to what it MIGHT be lol. It can be overwhelming. I'm just now getting used to the site so I've always read through other posts to try to find the exact symptoms my bike was having. Doesn't seem like any 2 banshee issues are the same haha.

If you need any help in the future shoot me a message and I'll try to lend a hand! 2 strokes aren't hard to work on, but 2 cylinders makes it harder

  4. This is the order I would go in.

Check for spark first. Weak spark will make it difficult to start

If no spark, start checking grounds first. (I've also had my coil wires pop off the + - terminals before)

    If you have good spark

Pull fuel line from petcock, put a cup under and turn gas on to make sure there's a good flow.

Check choke tube between carbs didn't come off.

Make sure carbs are synced and caps are on tight, intake boot clamps are tight

Pilot or main jet could be plugged up.

If you pull carbs off, inspect your reeds. If the petals have a gap, chip, crack, etc. it won't want to start.

If you have spark and everything else checks out, throw some new plugs in and see if it fires.

If nothing still, leak down test.

    Compression test.

  5. I can get on it and try to ride..it'll putt around but once I try to get on it and in the power band it just has nothing

Did you get this resolved? Hopefully you have, it's been a while since the post lol. I was dealing with a similar issue recently, it ended up being my float height and the float was also tweaked a bit. Straightened it out and shee was screaming

Also just discovered my tors delete was only half done(bought it with tors removed) I started reading about idle screw adjustments but my carbs only have air screws. So I'll be tapping some carbs tomorrow.

Just a couple things to check. I screwed up just about every step of the way building my banshee. I learned the hard way but I'm happy I learned what not to do, and why not to do it.

  6. Good deal, enjoy that shit

Hell yeah I appreciate the wishes

Got up early and I'm doing a run through. If you can help me out on 2 things it would be trill.

When I bought the quad, the dipstick was cracked off at the end (it's not in the case) but I forgot to get a new one so I'm trying to figure out the length of the dipstick! I filled the case with 1.6 qt like a month ago but just want to double and triple check ya feel?

And, where do I post random questions on this site? Everyone's talking about staters in the "shout box" and I didn't want to be the torrettes guy and blurt out a f*ucking dipstick question lol. Just type in the "what's on your mind" box??

  7. Very new to this. 88 banshee, 0.030 over, Toomey T5 exhaust. I'm at about 900ft elevation. I bought the quad with 2 left carbs so I'm replacing them. trying to figure out what size carbs/jets I should run. Mostly just trail riding this season. I'm thinking 28mm carbs and clueless on jetting. I have no air box yet the quad is completely stripped down to the frame and I'm trying to put it back together the right way. HAAAALP!
