If I kept the crank stock and just ported the jugs with 64.00 pistons, would I need to change domes with +4 timing and race fuel?

Ok change in plans. After much research the Athena kit was not what I thought. So here is what I have; 100% stock piston, jug, crank, and gearing. First time opening this engine up. Want to run race fuel, +4 timing, t5 complete pipes, upgraded cooling, 28pwk's and vforce4. I have been told that a huge piston will not equal big power. So how to I pull the most power? Port and polish on 64.00 or go larger? I think the first thing to go would be the crank and don't want that project till next winter. So how big is to big and where should I send the jugs and what style port? I ride ice circle track to sand dune drag so it has to be versatile. Thanks guys

you can never waste a dollar when your smiling. this entire bike is a waste of money. But I love every second I sit behind those handle bars.

at to the 32;1 comment, I will always mix 20;1 like the stick says next to the gas cap as long as its not synthetic. My klotz is 100% benol with race fuel. Michigan has 4 seasons so outside changing jets ya need to be consistent on somethings.

Tried to call Redline 3x today. two busy signals and a constant ring. Ill try again tomorrow to reach Cam. As far as the recent additions to the thread, I don't want to make a foolish mistake haha, & yes I have purchased all items besides the Athena kit from ebay or local Yamaha dealer. Other things done to the quad but this thread was suppose to be just about helping me build the engine to pull on the 450's. Virgin jugs and pistons give me a blank canvas to upgrade. I want to keep trans and crank stock until something major breaks. Right now Im looking for jug,piston, and carb ugrarde.

Thanks guys, I have priced out the Athena kits for around 700. My jugs are cherry and the pistons are 64.00. I need more power on the ice. I figured with the athena kit i could go big jug and big piston. I have heard the athena jugs are already ported thats what makes them special. I could send out my stock for bore and port and polish and then get big pistons and a cool head but that may be more than 700 so still throwing out ideas.

Current mods on a 03 Banshee; 40mm radiator with billet impeller. +4 Timing, vforce4 reeds, running on 93oct with 20:1klotz. Stock carbs with 290jets and pod filters. Stock pistons, crank & trans. Wanting to install the 392 Athena kit; jugs, pistons, head, ect. What carb setup will give me the most power with the 392 kit with pod filters? What else can I do to make more power besides going to alcy or a cub engine? Thanks in advance guys for your time and input. I respect what you have to say so lets do it to others. Thanks.

If your on a budget build and just need to get the tires rolling till more money comes in, ebay has some steel wheels for like $45ea. Or a simple beadlock chrome or black for 130 set. (search: 115x4 9x9) I just picked up a set of ITP Blackwater tires for basically nothing and thinking about the steel rims. I would only ride them at the local mud bogs. Right now I cant dump 800 into wheels and tires for the shee but one day I will, and OMF I will go.
