  1. hi guys, update after the weekends racing, well, the banshee held together after we went back to the 27cc domes, had no issues really, just shit power, I mean it was powerful but got shat on by the meth cr5,s... so I have parked the bike up and we are doin some thinking about where to go next, we are in 2 minds on just dumping the engine and starting again, we were poking at a dm 650 setup, but before we go anywhere we want to do our home work with what builders to use, and who really knows there stuff as I think a lot of the guys on here building highpower banshees do so with great success however our race is 7.5kms long at pretty much wot the whole way so its gonna be a hard one to pin, managing a consistant 100+hp for that long....I would assume a lot of the drag spec dune bikes would also melt down in there present state of tune if subjected to 4mins of wot... the drag tune is a little diff to what we are aiming for... so we shall see, after I cut the 22cc domes we had no issues with the orings, I did have the same frazzled look though prior to cutting them, I did suspect the pipes also.. heat is a major player here...
  2. well back again!!! the video was the day before today, well more deflation today, I can not get mt head roundthis bike, it ran like a champ in the video, we went back to the woekshop popped off the pipes had alook up inside, pistons cylinder walls looked great, plugs were good too, so geared her a little taller 17-38, and went back down to the beach this morning, well!! what 5 mins maybe and she is all over again, popped the pipes off and both pistons are smudged, loaded her up, into the workshop and pulled her down, plugs were hot and lean, exhaust crown edge on both pistons eaten away, am stumped again, jetting was on keihin 41mm 220 main 50 pilot middle clip, coolant temps were not extreme, antiboil coolant etc, running vp ms109 fuel with +5 on the timing, my bore clearance was 6 to 7 thou(which is huge) pistons 30mins old 10 range plugs, 23cc domes....I just don't get it the bike is not radical in its setup, and the jetting very fat, to me it just seems like it burnt out... I got a brand new cylinder, measured it up and it seems to be ok, I have honed it to have 5 thou clearance, unsharpened the new pistons, fitted 27cc domes, left the jetting where it is and timing etc, gonna run it in and give it a try... any suggestions? ideas? the thing that really pissed me off was , before it melted down, it was fast! very fast!! so rebuild number 3 for this week!!!!
  3. thanks for that starwriter, we will ned just that, luck!! here is a video of the first plug chop after tghe piston melt and the epoxy fix!!!!
  4. well that's the thing mate, really my challenge and race is just that!! keeping the thing together, ill be a happy chap if its still running at the end of the meet, as for high hp bikes.... thing is all the lads are running methanol cr500s, and they have put some time into them too, rumours of 96hp at the rear etc,one of them ran a 10.9 at the drags on his, they are not slow, thing they struggle with is getting there fueling right, they are a bit primitive so I would suspect there engine performance be a little inconsistent, the greatest advantage they have is there cooler running temps, that is frustrating me. if things start to go right with this bike I will run it on meth and fuel inject also... time will tell
  5. yes leakdown done, all good... went to the beach again!! ran fine, did a few plug chops and fattened it up, rode it pretty hard, temp did start to creep and worrie me a little,we did about 30mins on it, certainly is a screamer!!!! a new problem has a risen, keeping the front wheel down, I don't think its got anywhere near the claimed power, however am just glad to of had it running for as long as it has, I definitely need to gear it taller, we are at 19 inch rear wheel with 17 front rear 42 and am banging through looking for another gear!! am pretty impressed so far, but am just at a point of starting to hone in to the right tune, so no plugs backing out,no loosing and pumping no coolant, I held it flat for over 900meters and it was good,. pretty happy with it today..... got back to the workshop, popped the plugs-good, pulled the pipes, piston and bore look great!!, did a compression test 180 a side, and a leakdown no leakage!!!!! clutch held up too!!! we are going to try some fancy coolant and fatten it up some more to try get the temp down a touch, pop another clutch in for good meaure too. so at this stage the results are pretty good.. ill try post a video up a bit later... a very big thank you to all for your help and insight in to this pile.... I await the next hurdle.... one more test on Friday before the "king of the beach" on sunday!!!!!
  6. lol 2 storke vd, I hear you that!! yeah those numbers were initially what we were lead to believe were attainable with just installing the kit!!!in my case $11426 would be just a little closer.. yes the crack is in the trench area, why do you mention this?have you herd/seen of this before? well am off into the work shop to grab the shittter, devcon will have had 18hrs to go off,.........gonna start her see how its looking and hit the beach, well that's the plan........... whats the prediction today? crank? another piston? another radiator? gearbox? shift drum? output shaft? main bearing o ring? flywheel welded? stator? stator plate? just a small list of the problems!!!! oh..... maybe another crack somewhere...
  7. could you please tell me how to post a pic on this forum
  8. please please please let that be the case..........................
  9. I have had them piss out on the cr500s, I normally lightly dot punch the case and cylinder for some abrasion in that area .on the big singles
  10. yes that's top practice man, cant knock you for that!!
  11. and to add to that, the time prior to the beach test we had the same setup at the drags, did 4 runs with no dramas, well, except plug backing, which we id as the converging dome, so as noted we fixed that and then this issue, its how it has been with this bike, one issue after the other, it just doesn't seem to stop..hahah seem to stop, well I should rephrase that it just doent seem to go...
  12. no I didn't mate, you see the bike wasn't been ridin hard, didn't wring out, if anything it just sounded as if it ran out of juice.in jindsight yeah I should of, but only when I freshened it up as a leakdown through a windy piston wouldn't of told me jack, there is no damge to the new build(yet) and am only at the same stage I would bin finding it any how, doesn't really matter know anyway.... fukin bag of shit will prob run great now it has a nasty pile of devcon slapped on it.... way it goes eh....
  13. results..... got to the beach, rider started up bike, I set off walking 800 paces with the marker, I heard the bike just riding up and down about halfish throttle, counted uptoo about 700 paces and I heard the sound we all don't want to hear......... got a pillion back to the bike pulled the plugs, lhs cylinder was geat no dramas, rhs cylinder was white grey!!!! bike was red hot, wtf!!! wtf!!! finger over the plug holes, compression on lhs, not even a wisper on the rhs!! whipped the head off at the beach, lhs was text book running, rhs huge hole in the piston and melted round the edge, at this point I was just deflated, couldn't even be fuked looking any further, put it on the truck headed back to the workshop, engine out, cylinder off cleaned off a few small smudges, diamond honed it and it was fine, cpicked the ally of the cyl head and lightly sandblasted the head, that can out ok 2, took one look at the crank, wasn't too happy, just washed it out in the kerobath(hoping it doesn't effect any seals or orings, ) any way keep washing it out, then washed it out with 2 stroke mix, blew it out, filed it up with 2 stroke oil, turned it over and it felt good( its prob fuked but I don't care at this point).... so a predicted earlier, new pistons, gaskets etc , assemble and refit, cleaned out the carbs quadruple checked everything and pushed her outside for a start up, starts runs good, leave it a bit, few revs etc,, see smoke coming from the back of the engine!!! what fukin now... I take a closer look only to find a fuking crak about 4mm long on the top crankcase underneath the coolant hose that runs at the back of the cylinder out the back of the clutch cover...... so I push it inside shouting and cursing at this bike, in disbelief of yet another prob that has reared up...... I didn't coe to any analogy of why it popped a hole in the piston, quite clearly it had leaned out or become so hot it leaned out, my qaundry was the other cylinder was mint.... when I started it up after its quick top end, my cause became vey clear!!!,,,,,, any one have tis before???? I really couldn't be fuked with it so I have just cleaned it off and devcon,ed the shit out of it, I have come to the conclusion that if this bike throws another shit ball once again, it will be parked up for good, too much time money and energy has gone into it, such a fruitless pile of shit!!.. the devcon takes 24hrs to go off,.... we are off to the beach again 2 moro to see what happens this time.....
  14. couldn't agree more with you comments, from day one, heat dissipation was my main concern. the type of power and intensity these engines produce generates hea extremely fast, initially I had issues, but then I had some custom rads made, got totally ripped off at $1700 aus for them but they work. I can do a run on the dyno hard and these bring the temp down within seconds, it also takes a good deal of time for the heat to build up, as I say, to morrow will be a good test, our speeds are up to 180-200kms per hour so the airflow is a great deal better and fresher than the dyno room, we have a good functioning dash trailtech vepour, you can set your temp warning lights, retrieve your max temps, outside temp and current engine temp too. I have already gone up from my dyno size jetting we were at 155 main on the dyno, popped it up to 165, however the first few runs will be chopping to check, with the engine running consistant temps, it lends its hand to good jetting responses, regardless of how much I put into this bike I still have huge doubts!! am beginning to think its just a lead weight, to moro will tell, I will post up my results, my fingers are crossed and the odds stacked, am not a gambling man, but if pushed I would be 50/50 at the mo....
  15. haha I hear you, I checked the port durations today, 195/128 both equal too which was good to see, I took the 22cc domes and cut a 2 angle squish, first 5mm at 10deg, then ramped to13deg for the remaining8mm of squish, ended up at 24cc,took it for a little squirt an all seems fine for now have put the timing back at +5 and loaded it on the ute, tomoro awaits!! I have a set of 27 domes in the toolbox and will throw them in if I have issues.cant comment on power as I need to ring it a bit!! ..... time is running out...........
  16. hmmm found that one mate, spaced them 1mm out, fixed the prob fast, I really don't want them, can you get block off blanks for them?
  17. it has power valves, I really didn't want them, but that's how it came, more junk and probs to be had in my opinion..
  18. am gonna go in a pull the domes, recut them check this port duration, all I can do is keep my fingers crossed this thing works out,we have a test tomoro morning at the beach, this will be a hard run, 800m straight, hairpin turn, 800m straight, hairpin turn, basically wot for 4 mins!! a lot of heat and pressure on the engine, its called "king of the beach" in Australia. methanol cr5,s have won it for the last 10 years, all we know is the most powerful meth cr has at best 95hp at the rear, we are hoping the banshee engine ktm will be the answer, but I do have some big doubts, seems all along I have just been battling with shit parts, sort of like trying to fix a Hyosung, it just never seems to happen!!! ill keep u updated, thanks again.
  19. well at least it was not a one off, and I was going loopy....
  20. windy city john!!! we need to have a beer!!!!!!!!!! am please for the confirmations, but fuk its depressing......
  21. ill get a degree wheel on it and see what surprise I get, prob be different fukin heights at this stage!!!!!
  22. thanks for that, am on the right track then, results not too bad, and more optimistic marketing bullshit hp numbers eh..... ims1977 what ex port duration did you end up with on your ported engine, this engine seems to sign off rather quick see...
  23. thanks for that, something to go on, yeah its 180psi on both with the 22cc... thing is it runs bloody crisp, sharp etc, but its just this issue, as a matter of interest on your 548 what jetting set up you finish with, cheers oh and to add to that I think trinity quote these as been 10 deg? so maybe the added 3 is the way too go, ill get them out and deal to them....
  24. hey guys thanks a lot for your input on this, it is just confirmation of what I thought, but at time when your not experienced in a certain product you do need some guidance. am in a bit of a situ and a risky one, great how we all start rushing when the heat is on,. I have the yearly race this weekend and I need to sort this asap, I do not have time to get domes cut from the states as I am in Australia. Am thinking of recutting the squish myself,i know like hell there will be the optimum cut but I need to get that taper angle bettered, maybe another 3 deg leading to the dome will definitely be better? Well its conclusive then, don't listen to TRINITY!! As for the cylinder been ported, I was under the assumption it already was from trinity, the kit was claimed 120hp, however am not too fussed on that but would of liked to see 100 at the least.... I think I have all my bases, covered, but this engine just keeps biting in the wrong way!! thanks again guys..
  25. hello, I am new to this site, however have been reading through the forums and thank all for there info. I have acquired a banshee 535 cheetah set up originally sold by trinity.prior to this I have had no experience at all with these set ups, this 535 is mounted in a 2010ktm 450 chassis and its objective is beach racing, it has the following, kehin 41mm taperbores,22cc domes, drag pipes, dynatek igniton,535 kit, straight cut primarys, wiseco basket,100hp fast clutch, mod shaft, short cam shift star, adjustable timing plate, I run it on vp mr109. I do have acces to a dyno, which I have used, I have had nothing but problems with this bike, I got it seized and when I pulled it down, it was a cold 4 corner, I checked the jetting which was 180 main 60 pilot and mid clip pos, so was happy with that. igniton was stock pos, it had 25cc domes fitted and I rebuilt the engine with a little more ptb clearance, ran through the heat cycles etc and popped off the pipes, bores and pistons looked spot on, let it cool down and did a comp test 140 each cylinder and even, it was set at a conservative 1,3mm squish. anyway with the engine running, I ran a tank of gas through it 40;1 and put it on the dyno, was pretty disappointed to see only 85 at the rear, at this point started fiddling a bit, brought the jetting back ended up 50 pilot, 165 main and dropped the needles, came crisp and into life a bit, but still only manage 96hp, thought this was stillconservative. I called trinity for some info on there components, they were very helpful and suggested I go to 22cc domes and +5. I ordered and fitted them to the engine, they recommended 1.0mm squish...... now heres the odd part, when I fitted the domes and was setting up the squish I found the the clearance get tighter towards the center of the piston!!!! I was alarmed at this as this would work against theorey, rather than go any further I rung trinity and explained, he replied OH! you got that have you, to which I said yeah, do you run them like that to which he said yes should be fine, just set it up in the middle of the squish, I asked really, he said yeah will be fine, I jumped off the phone a little perplexed, but thought oh well its there product there setup, ill stick to the rules so to speak.... anyway on with it and back to the dyno... 22cc fitted 1.0mm squish and +5 on the ignition, bike ran back at 85, I was thiking wtf at this point, it did take of with a huge hit though but still, crap results for the changes, rolled back into the work shop to find the plugs backed out!!!! wtf the plugs were a good rich colour and the running temp cool too.. race fuel seemed odd.. plulled the head too find the inner orings, looking frazzled and the combustion mark most prominent ant the piston crown sqush to bowl edge, now am no expert but that is fuked, can anyone shed some light for me hear, seems like am detonating at rich and cold temps, fuked.. must be that angle, but trinity say not????? also could anyone shed light on why the hell my flywheel seems to be welding itself to the crank!!!! new crank, flywheel, stator ywice over now, got me fuked, lapped in checked measured, new key, balanced, you name it av done it, bloody odd engine, just about ready to torch this thing.... thanks in advance....
