  1. i just blew out one of my reeds after rolling the ol girl. poor thing has a dumb owner. i had boyesen power reeds in it was hoping to get some input on what would be best buy for the money not terrible interested in spending 200+ dollars on v forces. shoot me some input i woulld apprecate it.
  2. if you can not make through your gears there is no worry of being to lean, a lean bike runns hard as fuc keep your piloets the same and drop the mains never good to change both at the same time specaly when it runs so good through 4th drop main keep needle the same pilot same adjust those as neded once your mains are in order there will be a drop that allows to make it through 5th but more than likley not 6th that will tell you that you are one a wayfrom succses!
  3. fyi backfiring is not sign of rich but sign of lean do you have adjustable timing plate? if so checkand make sure blots are still tight and it has not moved.
  4. yes i agree carbs dont give out there are no moving parts in them like a transmission or something the cables might get worn and streched but thats about it. take it else where for work because that is not who you want working on your stuff

  6. adjust needle your color sounds good you say it runs hard go with it go you dont usally ride to go slow needle probloem easy fix youl'll get it in 2 trys
  7. go down in mains until it runs rabid all the way through 6th falls flat in 4 5 or 6th on powerband keep dropping
  8. when a motor falls flat or loses all power when trying to achive full throotle and or cant make it through all gears because you can not reach the power band you are rich and need to drop mains once you achive wot with out probleoms ride and tehna djust needles from there leave needles alone until u get wot probleom fixed. but 280 seems pretty lean for what u are running so i assume you are at sea level? but all indications besides your plugs point to rich lean would run like raped ape
  9. your main jet is way high for what you have mine i bored 60 over with fmf sst pipes and silencers carbon fiber reeds wisco crank after market box with k&n air filters @ 850 elevation and i run a 270! you should be below that i would start at 250 work down from there maybe 260 to be safe but 300 on mine runs like straight poop with more work done and basiclly same temp n alttitude
  10. my opinion would be since it ran good before and now does not that it is not a jetting issue but probaly a fuel dilevery probleom. check carbs for debris check petcock nake sure it is not clogged or have shit in it that is slowing down fuel to the carbs. but from you have told us it is also exhibiting rich probleoms i would also consider checking stator. pickupcoil spark plug boots and wires to make sure it is geeting proper firing. if that is not happening could give you some simalar simptoms. also clean your air fiter for shits and giggles make sure you dont over oil them also
  11. i take it that you are shopping on ebay and that is why u are getting so many different years i am pretty sure that the harness never changed during the production 87 to 01 fure sure is the same
  12. i run 280 mains 30 piloet with 66.5 pistons stock head not milled at 800 elevation and just got back from wisconson witch elevation was 1700 and needed to make no changes
  13. buy a fly wheel puller and buy yourself a stator and coil from rm stator for about a 100 dollars with free shipping put in the 27.5 p and 280 mains and go rip it up
  14. there is an actull kit u can buy and u ad air to it to see if holds psi or u can vacuum it it can have leak from more than just carbs exp. head looose jugs not tight broke seal lots of things and any one of them can cause it to get air top laces theres not suppose to be
  15. i have a probleom with the springs on my pipes the shift side top spring keeps breaking at pipe where it hooks in at. basicallly right at the apex of the hook in the sping on pipe side what makes this to keep happening . and is there better springs to buy rather than the same fmf spring i keep buying and breaking?
  16. what elevation are you at? you should diffently do a leak down test that well make u run rich with the fmfs and k@n air filters you should be at least 260 mains to 300 i have fmf sst with k@n air filters open box and carbon fiber reeds and run 270s at 850 ft elevation between 60 and 90 degrees. i would say that somewhere u have an air leak though
  17. if you have an adjustable timing palt one of the bolts could have come loose and moved your timing to something you dont want and trust me your quad will not start. also run ohm meter on your stator and pickup coil to see if they are still proper i think stator should be between 110 and 130 pickup coil between 90 and 150 cant remember check your manual it tells u
  18. i ahve fmf sst .60 over stock with carbonfiber reeds witch are way better than stock using twin k&n air filters in a box and my jetting is 30 pilot and 270 main at 850 elevation air screw out about 2 maybe a touch less also running 32:1 start your mains at 300 if u have a whole jet kit and go down from there. take it out run it through the gears while getting on it if it losses power in fourth or fithe gear basically bogs out u are to rich and need to de rase your main jet

  20. i just had same probloem on mine. u are to rich but within prolly one or two jets. i had this prob for awhile once i made it through 4th gear i was only off by one size my next drop put me spot on. but also come to find out my adjustable timing plate had come loose. and my timing was changing on its own. had to take care of that now its all good
  21. what direction do you go with jetting on mains when u go up in elevation. going from 850 to 1750 wondering what ill need to be ready for

  24. i will try a higher octane but i use klotz benzol for oil have a 27.5 on hte way. the plug wires i havent thought of beacuse of how good it runs through third gear into the start of fourth. but what can it hurt
  25. what is good compression on a these things. mines bored 60 over with stock head.cant get it tuned in want to do a compresssion test but need to know what iam looking for
