well I just stopped by the shop and he showed me the damage. the dome and piston are all gouged and scratched up. the cylinder didn't look too bad he said he might be able to just clean it up and if not he has a spare around the shop. I am still in shock that that little shit out of that plug could do that much damage. as far as the bill is concerned yeah im paying it and like u said and he told me the labor is on the house. This time when it is done I am definitely doing a compression test. I am not 100% sure that's what happened but its top on my list. I think the timing was advanced too far and it had too much compressioin for the pump gas I ran in it. Well I learned my lesson the hard way. So one more question for you guys when this thing is done again and I do a compression test where do I need to be at to run pump gas because I have no need to run race gas..I just wanted to point out to you guys also that the person who built this quad for me is not a site sponsor here just a small shop by my house that was convenient. And I don't know much about quads this is the first quad I ever owned. I got all my ideas from this site to build my 4 mil and I want to thank you guys for that.
Just got a call from my builder and the damage is I need a new cylinder, piston and dome. Not what i wanted to hear. As to the cause my builder said it was for sure detonation but due to what I still don't know.. thanks for all your replies I hope to be back and running next weekend and hopefully for more than a few hours..
When I first started riding I stopped and checked plugs and both were golden brown then afterwards the one plug almost all of the insides of the plug were gone except a little piece and the top electrode was fine as far as the other plug it was completely black and dry
Your right even though I have limited mechanical skills I could have took the head off myself. I was just pretty pissed yesterday when I only got to run it for 2 hours and it broke down so my first thought was take it back so I had already took it there yesterday. My builders a good dude and I'm sure he will figure out what happened and get me running again .
After the replies I'm not quite sure but I believe detonation was the problem. Yesterday I put in pump gas 93 with Klotz 32:1. I asked my builder when it was done if I could use pump gas and he said yes. I asked what the compression was at and he said probably 125. So he did not check the compression I believe. I'm going to his shop today and see what's going on he was supposed to pull the head and check the damage. I'll let you guys know what the culprit was.. Thanks for all the replies.
I am completely sick to my stomach today after 2 months of waiting I finally got by banshee out of the shop. With help and research from this website i decided to put a 4 mil stroker in my banshee , the wiseco 795s and mod quad head w/22cc stroker domes, timing +5, 200 watt stator , dynatek, port & polish, the whole 9. This thing ran like a raped ape for about 2 hours and is honestly the fastest thing I ever rode. I was smiling from ear to ear with excitement then all of a sudden the thing just shut down and would not restart. My first thought was a fouled plug so I go to pull the plug and it rocks from side to side as loose as can be I get it out and see that the inside of the spark plug is: gone! Obviously its floating around in my fuckin motor. Well I pulled both plugs out and went and bought ngk br9s instead of the 8s i was using hoping all that shit from the spark plug blew out of the exhaust and it would fire right up. I got nothing wouldn't fire. My ? Is has anyone ever seen this before and is my builder at fault for this or just bad spark plug? Did the piston travel too high maybe? Thanks for your help it is actually back at the shop right now my builder is gonna pull the head and try to see what happened ..
Yeah they are VM carbs and it seems like I am real close now on jetting it idles fines and runs like hell just the only problem is right off of takeoff there is a bog and sometimes its so bad it stalls me..
Just rebuilt top and bottom it has a 4 mil wiseco long rod, wiseco795s, 32-33 mikuni round carbs, t-6 pipes, timing +5, mod quad head with 22 CC custom domes, no air box lid , Can anyone get me close for the jetting on this setup?
I went with a woods port because that's all that's around here in pa is freaking woods..I'm just looking for a good low-mid pipe that a work good with my mods..Im leaning towards dmcs or pro circuits idk..
Thanks for the response but I'm looking for something that responds a little better to mods. My shee will be out of the shop in a couple days with a 4 mil long rod, wiseco 795s, ported, 34mm carbs, +4 timing, dyna ignition, and mod quad head with 21cc domes..I can't wait . That's why I'm trying to get rid of those t6s I believe they will choke out a good bit of HP.
