  1. While I was at Discovery Bay CG @ Winchester Bay OR, I had a kid about 7-8 yo search me out because when I passed their camp, he said it sounded like popcorn. LOL. On the pavement in the campground, it has a noticeable echo with an audible "pop". Big improvement on the sand but if I see law enforcement I shift up a couple gears and lug it.
  2. I didn't have a baseline but in the grass they were 98-98.5 db. Law Enforcement was almost nonexistent at Florence Oregon over the July 4th Week so I never got hassled or a courtesy check. Here's a picture of them on the Banshee all put together.
  3. Do you have proper freeplay? You need to have freeplay on your clutch lever or your clutch is never completely disengaging.
  4. Didn't turn out too bad and the freshly packed silencers measured out at 101db. I need to get it out in the grass to to see if the tips help cause I don't think that a cement floor and a steel table will show if it helps. I'm hoping for around 96db but I think that is optimistic
  5. It points the noise towards the sand which does a decent job of absorbing the sound and the db meter "hears" it as being quieter. Cascade Innovations has been using this trick for years on their silencers.
  6. Here is the silencer with the stainless tip that I made. I had to machine the end cap out to 1.25" to receive it and I think I will use JB Weld and a set screw from the bottom to retain it. Now all I need to do is pickup some polish & orings and then I can get them on. I'll get a db reading with fresh packing before & after the tips to see if they are a waste of time.
  7. I've seen them set up a test station on the road from Driftwood II to the dunes. They weren't writing tickets, just turning you back to camp but I've seen them writing tickets on the road out of Sand Dunes Frontier. Last year they had their summer help doing courtesy checks in the campground. Not recording VIN or License, just make, model, cc and exhaust brand.
  8. They have a chart for the RPMs. I believe it's 50% of the manufacturer recommended max operating RPM and the Banshee, IIRC, is around 3750 rpms. They use an oscillating tach that they lay on your machine and the meter is like 20 inches away from the tip at a 45 degree angle. Target is 93 db but because they can't control ambient noise in the field, they give you 2 more db leeway. Back when I was younger, I had a CR250 (Red Racer) that I did nothing to quiet down and it must of annoyed the hell out of the neighbors but no one ever called the cops. That thing was was LOUD.
  9. 87db is quiet. My Barker's on my Raptor are 92db and I thought that was good. If I keep it, I'll end up with the CSFX silencers. A TIG welder is in my future but I got an awesome deal on a plasma cutter (Hypertherm 1000) that will cut 1.25" steel so the welder got pushed back. There is a ton of stuff I will make for my hobbies when I get one.
  10. I don't have any extra Banshee specific parts around. I bought the Shee off of CL just the way it is. I cut the turndowns yesterday and will bore the CPI tips to accept them tomorrow @ work. I'll have to crimp (swedge) the part that goes into the tip about an 1/8th of an inch to leave enough material to tap so I can use screws to retain the tip. We have a decibel meter @ work so I'll check before and after to see if it works and post some pictures of the finished product.
  11. Not in the budget before my next dune trip (July 4th week). I always wanted a Banshee and finally bought one. If it's everything I hoped, then CSFXs and other mods will be done in the off season. Just trying to get it to a point that the law won't notice me as much.
  12. They will have a fresh repack when they go back together. Just wanting it to be quieter to the Forest Service sound checkers way of checking it.
  13. I bought a '02 Shee with CPIs and I'm trying to make them at least a little quieter for the Oregon Dunes. Searched the HQ as well as the rest of the net and haven't found much so I bought a 1.25" 180 degree mandrel bent stainless tube and I'm gonna cut and make tips similar to the old style Cascade tips. Has anyone done this? What's your best guess on the decibel reduction?
  14. Octane slows down the burn, so if you don't have enough compression or advanced timing to make up the difference, you will lose performance. Modern cars can switch between octane ratings because they have knock sensors and the computer is trying to advance the timing all the time.
