I was out at the dunes this past weekend ripping around on the banshee which has been dead nuts reliable and running great for a couple years now. I rebuilt the motor (2) years ago (stock cylinder 4 mil w/ HJR porting) and haven't had a single issue, granted I probably only have a few hours of run time on the motor since then but that's besides the point.
After about 25 minutes of riding I shut it off to watch some races. After a few minutes decided to head back to the trailer and the banshee wouldn't start. Usually it fires right up on the first kick after its warm so I immediately knew something was up. Kicked it for a few minutes and then reluctantly gave in and got towed back to the trailer. Got back and found that it had no spark. Pulled out the ohm meter and everything tested out perfect (coil, stator & pickup). Swapped coils with a buddy just to makes sure it wasn't the issue and same his fired up instantly with my coil. It was near the end of the day so I through it on the trailer and rode the 450 the rest of the day.
The next day just for shits and giggles I kick it a few times and it fires right up like nothing is wrong. shut it down and restarted it a few times and it acted perfect. Took it for a few laps and once warm the same result. no spark.
Decided to try pull starting it and it fired right up. Rode the rest of the weekend just push/pull starting it when I wanted to ride and it behaved perfect.
So to summarize my long post. Starts perfect with the kick start when cold. After running for about 15-20 minutes it loses spark when trying to kick it over but fires up instantly when pulled or push started. All electronics are factory yamaha . Banshee is a 92 so I couldn't swap CDI's with my buddy as the plugs were different.
Any idea's?
