  1. Guys, no updates as of yet, my chassis is ready to go, I am looking to buy a serval right now, just waiting to hear back from a couple of guys on a set of custom pipes to fit the bike, you guys know any good pipe builders?? Thanks Pete
  2. Cam, I have already mounted one of my rz 350 engine in the chassis, welded in the mounts, ect... Yes I could run the rz engine in it, it's a highly ported, ign advanced, big carb engine with around 70-75hp. This set up, even with the pv's, is very peaky. I'm leaning toward a modified serval set up for this bike. I want very linear power starting low, with 90ish rwhp max. Pipes will be custom made to fit the chassis. Remember, I only have one rear wheel!!! TSS makes a very nice servo actuated pv set up but they are made for their own 500 engines. The blade design is tailored for them exclusively. My engine guy has some SIMs graphs showing around 110rwhp using a tweaked serval set up. His SIMs are usually only off by a few hp so we'll see where this leads. Thanks Man Pete
  3. The Ape 250 has mid 60's hp with 90% of power from 9k to 12.5k. Modern 600's are in the 100hp range with a much broader spread. The difference is power to weight ratio and the Aprilia 250 has handling just a notch or two under the true 250GP bikes, (tz250...) A well set up Aprilia rs250 can run with bigger diesel bikes on the right roads, just as long as there are no long straights. And yeah, the TSS servo actuated pv's are nice but work only on the TSS engines, the blade shape is made for their 500's Pete
  4. Thanks Guys, looking more at my options in depth. Alex, yes, got the bike from Mike S. I live in CT about a half hour from Mike. Seems like the most bang for your buck is either the cub or a tweaked serval. Was hoping to find something with a more linear curve without powervalves, but I guess I can live with the punch on top as I come from a 2T mx background. I've got a few rz350's with a couple spare motors so trans is not a problem, gonna work that over as well with some straight cuts.... I've got a guy working on a SIMS program with the serval and hes thinking 95ish on pump to the rear is not out of line, which is good by me. Thanks Again Gents, I'll keep you posted Pete
  5. Thanks for the replies guys, this will be a street/track day bike. Thus the need for usable "street power". The Aprilia rs250's came stock with a "re-branded" Suzuki based 250cc 2T engine putting out about mid 60's HP. So far the general consensus seems to be to go with a bigger displacement PV engine to get the lower end power. Really didn't want to have to go with the pressure activated PV's, but seems to be no way around it. Servals seemed to be the way to go at first glance, but I don't think they will give the power numbers up top that I'm looking for. Keep it coming fellas, tell me what you think. Ballpark price on 10mil Cheetah with PV's, intake, carbs, crank... Everything 'cept for pipes???? Thanks Again Pete
  6. Because well, read on... Ok fellas, need some help here. Yeah, its not a banshee, but you guys know your shit when it comes to engine configurations and what works. This is what the engine is going in: I own a few rz350s so I know my way around the ypvs engines pretty well. For this one I'm looking for a stroked engine with about 95ish rwhp on high octane pump fuel. I have read up here on the cubs, servals, cheetahs... This is NOT a drag bike and I'm not looking for 1/4 mile times, looking for a smooth curve that starts low and a motor that doesn't want to high side me if I happen to get overly zealous with the throttle hand while dragging a knee Any and all advice will be GREATLY appreciated, I'm ready to pull the trigger on this thing so type gentlmen, type!!! Thanks in advance to my dirty friends Pete
  7. One more gents. my pride and joy and daily driver: Pete
  8. Thanks guys, I live in Connecticut. This is the bike the engine is going in: Here is some of my other "stuff": Yeah, I DO have a problem!!! Pete
  9. Hey Gents, new guy here, lurking and learning from you guys for a while now and figured I'd join on in. A bit of an intro so you know who you're dealing with here. I've been an avid 2T bike rider since 1981, yeah old guy here, and own several 2T street bikes, rz350's to name a few. I've been seeing the engine work you guys are doing here and it is quite impressive, I'm learning a lot. My latest project is putting a rz based engine into my Aprilia rs250. The frame mods are done and looking at different engine options. Probably going the Serval route, my engine guy has been working out some SIMS graphs and its looking like its where I want to be. Anyway, hope you fellas don't mind an asphalt guy asking a bunch of questions and throwing some s**t into the game!! Thanks Pete
