Thaks for the replies. The cable I bought was an original Yamaha cable and as you said it is way to long for the perch that I have fitted. The perch I have is not a banshee one and that seems to be causing the problem.

Hi I have just bought a 96 banshee and am just going through the bike as it is a bit rough. I bought a new clutch cable and went to fit it today and discovered that the perch fitted was not correct and that a spacer had been fitted so the cable slack could be taken up enough! I want to get another clutch perch and lever that will work with the standard set up. The main problem I have is I live in the UK and there is not many places to get banshee parts. Is there another Yamaha perch from a motocross bike that fits and works ok as I can get YZ bits no problem. Thanks for your help.
