Anything with a motor on it. I hit the dunes throughout the year, but I'm a snowmobile nut during the winter. Fast cars, with a particular passion for turbos. I've also got some really fast electric RC trucks. An RC with a Brushless Motor, Lipo batteries, and some paddle tires is a great combination for the dunes.

  1. And I thought I knew a fair amount about 2 stroke motors..... I don't know anything. It looks like I'll need to do some homework between now, and when the snow gets deep. I had no idea that guys were pulling so much horsepower from modified Banshee motors. If I could add another 20 HP to what I already have, I think I would be happy..... for a while. Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I'll start looking into a 4 mm cub set up. My boost bottle came in the mail yesterday. Looks like I won't be needing it.....
  2. It seems like every time I get into a hobby thinking it will be affordable..... I end up with an angry wife, and thousands of dollars that mysteriously disappeared.
  3. Thanks guys. It has Toomey T-5 pipes and an aftermarket filter on it now, but is otherwise stock. I pretty much spend all of my time riding at the sand dunes. It sounds like my best power options are to mill the head, or pull my cylinders and have them ported. I'll contact some of the site sponsors and look into porting in a few months when there's enough snow to pull the sled out. I'll just focus on improving the handling until then. Maybe I'll buy a second set of stock cylinders to have the machine work done. You guys are great- much kinder to new posters than some of the other types of forums I've been on. Thanks for the advice.
  4. This seems like a great forum. I hope you'll pardon the newbie question, but I couldn't find the answer in searches. I'm new to Banshees. My business partner and I have been hitting the dunes every week this summer on a KFX, Raptor and my trusty KX250, but I've wanted a Banshee since I was a kid. I found a 2001 a few weeks ago with low hours for $1500 and jumped on it. I took it out last week and the thing rips. I can see how guys dump so much money into Banshees because I already want more power. The handling isn't great, but I've been reading up on ways to change that. Enough with the preface.... I've noticed guys referring to cub motors and Cheetah motors a lot. I'm not sure what this means.... My best guess is that it's a term for referring to big blocks and small blocks? Maybe I'm completely off on that? I ask because I'm already looking at ways to get more power. I have to keep my spending down a bit for a little while since my wife doesn't even know I bought it (the joys of a secret business account). I've just ordered a repair manual, a boost bottle, a steering dampner, and I'm looking for some front shocks now. My second question is what are the most cost effective bolt on's for more power that don't require tearing the motor apart? I've only pulled a few motors apart in my life, but if you guys say the best performance mod is internal, I'll do it. I'm definitely hooked.
