  1. OK well it seems to be sorted now the choke pipe is on cheers guys! Still need to get a new choke knob but it runs now and I have got it Idling Only problem now is I have a broken shock on my LT500
  2. Yeah I am starting to think this may be a jetting issue, but will check compression also. On a side note (I just noticed a red radiator in the previous post) do any of you guys have a problem with overheating? Both my banshees get hot.
  3. OK guys, thanks. I only ever stipped one carb at a time. The choke tube is (now) broken off but right at the outside. This happened about a year after the rebuild so is not helping not being able to use the choke, but is not the issue. However it is on the Left carb (the choke tube is the handle right? Or do you mean the tube that connects the carbs?) Once it is running and warm, it (nearly) idles - it idles for a minute or two but other than that it rides great, maybe a little boggy low down, its hard to say as I haven't used it enough of late. I will check the stator gap when I get back home on Wed.
  4. Wow, I just thought, must be really hard for you guys in the US to get metric stuff! I got a stainless kit off of ebay a while back which does basically every bolt for about
  5. Infact I must have honed it, why wouln't I have! Anyway, where do you get a compression tester from? Anyone bought them from the UK?
  6. Thanks for the welcom guys! OK, I have a manual yeah. But not a carb sync tool. I have done all the things mentioned, pretty much in that order! I have even spent hours cleaning each plug and socket on the loom to ensure good contacts. The carbs have been stipped and cleaned and are all good although need set up with regards idle and mixture i guess. As I am more used to car mechanics I dont really know much about setting up the carbs on a 2 stroke. When I say the spark is weak, I seem to remeber it being pretty weak from new, maybe I am just comparing it to a car unfairly. I have also started a thread in the repairs section (not sure how to link to it) with the problem. This may sound like it is my problem, but it happened way afterwards! I am in need of a new choke pin/needle (the brass? pin that the choke handle is on) as it snapped recently which makes starting even harder now! Any idea where to get one? Thanks again Mike
  7. Don't worry about answering with a question! Its all help. So I take it the boost bottles are not much good? I will do a compression test when I get back. I assume there is a good guide on here somewhere. The reason it didn't get honed was that the bores were perfect, which amazed me as it was the first time since new the engine had been taken apart. As for the lights, they were working when kicking when it had no spark, but stopped just after checking the stator, I would like to fix this sometime as it is quite hard to ride in the dark! Thanks again for the help so far. I got this thing when I was 12 and love it to bits!
  8. It was completely stock after the rebuild, but had no spark, so after chainging the coil and it still not starting I started changing things, first the reeds, then filter and boost bottle. They were only put on as I had intended to do it after it was all running and run in. Pipes are standard. Jets, as far as I know are standard. Where is a good place to get jets? Is there a guide somewhere to pressure/compression test? It was so long ago I can't remeber how it was done let alone figures! The lights have also sopeed working around the same time (right after the stator was checked I think) would this be related? Thanks for the help so far!
  9. I did a pressure test on it which seemed good, and the compression when kicking seems good, no different to the other banshee although I know that doesnt really say much. It also misfires on one cylinder when cold but when hot goes great. Any suggestions on jets? Standard exhaust, dual stage boyesen? reeds, K&N and Boost bottle. Thanks
  10. Oh also, it has a K&N. I am around sea level Air temp is around 40 to 70 i guess.
  11. Hi guys hope someone can help. My Banshee is a nightmare to start... It was in bits for about a year as I slowly got all the bits to rebuild it, and as far as i remember it started fine before it was stripped. The pistons and rings were changed and apart from that nothing was done to the engine except cleaning of reeds, carbs etc. Then no spark, or at least a VERY weak spark and not all the time. Checked the stator and it seemed to be fine so I replaced the coil. The spark is better now. But it still wouldn't start. So I replaced the reeds with aftermarket ones and fitted a boost bottle. It just would not go. I tried pulling it and it eventually fired. Now it only starts on the kick start if the engine was stopped with the switch (i.e. if it stalls while on idle it wont start). Any ideas? Its driving me nuts! Thanks Mike
  12. Hi guys, just registered with the Forum and thought I would say hi before I go and troll through the threads looking for answers! I have never thought of using forums until I got an Audi S2, the S2forum has given me so much help and saved (as well as cost!) me so much money its untrue, so hopefully this place will do the same! I am Mike, I live in Aberdeen - Scotland. I have a '92 Banshee that I have had from new which I have recently spent a lot of time fixing up. New blue plastics, all new bushes and bearings, seals and pistons/rings etc. It wouldn't start after the rebuild, the spark was VERY weak so I replaced the coil. Now it will only start if it is pulled when cold, although it will start if you catch it first time when hot or even if it has been sat for a few days it will start first kick. But if you don't get the throttle opened just right first kick, no chance! Thats one issue - any clues? It also misfires when cold (I figure probably the carbs are not set right) The lights have also stopped working I think since the stator was checked when it was rebuilt. It was a while ago now but I am sure it was the same time. Likely causes? I also own a '92 still in White/Turquoise which I found on ebay. It runs great but a mate broke the chain the other week! Sadly I also have an (I think) LT500 - on the plus side it cost next to nothing! Sorry I was meant to be introducing myself, not my problems! Anyway, any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike
