My girlfriend has a 2002 Banshee, she rides it pretty timidly and we were at Glamiz for thanksgiving and after riding for about a half hour she got stuck down in a bowl, I tried helping her and her bike acted as if it was taking off in second, we couldn't get it into 1st. So in the sand it was pretty impossible to get it moving. After trying for a bit her clutch went out and we couldn't get the bike in nutrual. We had to take the chain off to tow it back to camp. After taking it apart, the clutch was pretty fried.
Last week I put new clutch in it and and I went to test drive it and went to take off and it did the same thing, was taking off in 2nd. I managed to get it going and after a few minutes of riding without first gear, but I had 2nd and 3rd grear. After about a minute of riding it just dropped into nutrual out of the blue and rolled to a stop. I decided to give it another try and I shifted it down and finally got 1st then the first 3 gears worked fine, after a couple minutes of riding, all of a sudden the tires locked up and stalled the engine, now the whole transmission is locked up. I can't even kick start it, I had to take the chain off to move it.
Someone else said it might be the shifter star coming loose... I have been surfing this forum to see if there is someone else out there with this problem. I have a service manual and I'm pretty mechanically inclined and have rebuilt engines before, but this is my first Banshee experience, besides changing the clutch. Does this sound like an internal thing, in the transmission? Was hoping to go riding this weekend, any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks, Alan
