  1. not oh man but oh fck! the left piston is smoked (as in done for) as is the head and the crank. looks like when they shaved the head it was un even and beat the hell out of the piston. as for the crank don't know if it was part of the skirt or time for it to go, but it is done as far as i can tell by pulling the jugs off. might actually be the reason the piston skirt broke originally, that or the un even head. i will try to get some pics up tomorrow. the left side rod bearings are pretty much in pieces. so much for avoiding catastropic damage. i might be able to salvage the one piston if it matches the vito's (window size and such) definitely new rings if so. plus a crank and a head. already working on a few deals for the big parts. what else should i go ahead and check into?
  2. do you still have the new head? if so how much shipped to nc 28574?
  3. how much for the stock head and do you have a crank running around somewhere?
  4. how much for crank and either head shipped to nc 28574. need them asap thanks
  5. i will be opening up the bottom end tonight and tomorrow like i said i am starting with the clutch cover because when i heard the noise i stopped immediately. hopefully nothing got all jacked up. btw what oil should i put back in the tranny? like what weight and stuff like that. if it matters i do alot of trail riding.
  6. that is a good question..... well when i pulled it apart i looked and didn't see any way for a piece the size that was missing to get into the case. i did look though, probably just a little to quick. when i didn't see the piece i figured the chucklehead that had it before me busted the skirt, fished it out and put the damn broke piston back in. there were a couple of shady things on this bike that made me think that was a possibility. anyways i got lucky that the busted skirt didn't screw my cylinder up, just a little honing and it was good.
  7. my compression is fine about 150 each. i still think that is part of the busted piston. i am going to check it out this weekend and i will let you guys know. i think i might go ahead and reset my pickup gap also. i know that it is supposed to be betwenn .16 and .20 mine starts better (or at least it did) at .24. right now my primary concern is getting whatever is in there out. thanks guys
  8. Ok gents here's the latest. I went home, pulled the plugs (they were a little black, no biggie right now just needs re-jetted) shifted the tranny through all six gears. i visually watched the kicker gear engage the other gear everything looked good in that aspect. while it was in gear i rocked the tires back and forth, after a few minutes of that whatever it was broke free. i kicked it over without the plugs and the top end is not seized. put the plugs in tried to start it.....nothing....of course. while i was kicking it over, it locked up again. come to think of it i never found the piece of the skirt that broke off. i am going to open the clutch cover and see what i can see and hopefully find the problem. if not, on to splitting the case. i think (hope) i avoided catastrophic damage. Anyone?
  9. i can roll it in neutral and definitely shift to 1 and 2. i didn't try to go to any other gears. definitely no rod hanging out of the case. As for the having to pull start, i have had to do it ever since i got it. but only when it is the first start of the day. i have troubleshot that down to maybe my stator starting to go but totally irrelevant right now since the new thing came up. Like i said i haven't pulled anything off yet, i am just fishing for ideas.
  10. no the clutch is not tight and i definitely didn't drop anything in the case. i work in aviation and i pay very close attention to things like that. when you say a mess to clean up what do you mean?
  11. ok i just rebuilt the top end on my shee with vito's superstock pistons and put some 2 stage carbon fiber reeds. other mods include the crappy boost bottle pro circuit exhaust +4 timing key and a shaved head. here is what happened, i put everything together and as usual i had to pop start it. no problem. i ran it for about 2 hours to start breaking the rings in. everything was working perfect. the next day i had to pop start it again. this time when it started it sounded like it was trying to foul the plugs. so i proceeded to run it because i forgot to turn the gas off the night before. i was riding it for about 5 minutes or so when i heard so noise coming from the right side of the case, not the cylinders, the case. i immediatley stopped and shut it off. and voila the f@#$ing kickstarter is stuck, as in won't kick over. i haven't investigated yet but i am going to pull the clutch cover off to see if there is anything screwy. what i am looking for is, has anyone ever had this problem? or any ideas what it could be. btw the case was never opened, i didn't even touch the bottom end. any ideas would be great. thanks in advance.
  12. I am still a little unclear as to what the shift star mod does. i have looked around on here and i still don't quite understand. can anyone shed some light on this for me. maybe dumb it down a little. thanks in advance
  13. what i usually do is just pour some gas in there, swish it around and then pour most of it out. after that i light the pipe on fire and let it burn through. I know it sounds stupid but i can tell a difference in performance when i do this, albeit not very much, but still a difference.
  14. definitely check for an air leak, mine was doing the same thing. found the leak in the left intake boot, right around the nipple for the boost bottle. i sealed it with some super black and it worked like a charm.
  15. yeah i agree with you, especially since i went from having the slowest bike in the garage, a blaster, to the fastest. this shee smokes a warrior, kfx450, z400, ltr450, 400ex, and with a little more love the outlander 800. But anyway i will probably pull the stator cover off again, recheck everything and try it again at .20. Hopefully the .24 is a fluke and just happens to make the same "juice" as the .20 gap. if not then .24 it is. thanks for your input. BTW sometimes the simplest question yields the correct answer.
  16. yes i get nice blue spark. i checked all wires running to the cdi already everything is connected and no sheathing is cracked. i did 2 checks on the stator. one was a visual check for corrosion on and around that area and for the condition of the wires. all of the above was good. the second check was one i got off the forum about measuring the resistance and all that crap. everything was in the respectable numbers. so this leads me to say that the stator is "good". also since the headlights work fine (i know the power comes from a seperate section of the stator) and i get that good spark kinda speaks volumes, to me at least, that it is functioning properly. Then again i may be a fcking idiot and the numbers lie and the stator really is getting worn. But the real question is, do i pose a threat of trashing the bike with this current setting?
  17. Sorry I meant to add this earlier, the bike starts just fine with the pickup coil gapped at .24, hot. cold. doesn't matter. that is what the strange thing is.
  18. the pilots are the stock size. i have 280 mains needle on the 3rd clip. mods include +4 degree key. full pro circuit exhaust, the head is shaved but not sure how much, boost bottle, weisco pro lites, std bore. if there is anything else, then i don't know about. these are what the previous owner told me was done. if it matters i run 32:1 amsoil interceptor 93 octane with octane booster mixed at 4 oz for 5 gallons. also it has engine ice for coolant. when i got the bike the other guys was running a race gas and 93 octane 50/50 mix. oh yeah elevation is 107 ft above. see if that helps thanks in advance
  19. Ok i know the pickup coil is supposed to be gapped at .16-.20, but mine is set at .24. The reason? I pulled the stator cover to check the stator. while i was in there i checked the gap. it was over .35, no clue why. I just got the bike about a month ago. So I adjusted to .20 wouldn't start. tried .18 nothing. so i started going up at .25 it was hard to start, same as .23 but .24 apparently was the sweet spot. So WTF! BTW the reason i was checking the stator was because it was a bitch to start cold. stator is good.
  20. do they come with cages or do they fit the stock cage?
