  1. Well guys, I ended up having my friends dad do the custom fab work, which once he started getting into it turned out to be a much bigger project than he or I thought. It turned out the previous owner who started the project really didn't do anything very well. My buddies dad spent just about all winter working on rebuilding the frame, and making a custom gas tank. The tank holds just over 6 gallons of fuel. The frame was rebuilt with much thicker metal tubing, and actually welded correctly. Today I installed my YFZ supsension, and re routed my fuel line. It is a very close fit between the fuel tank and the rear sprocket and chain, but even with my 250lbs bouncing on the rear of the seat, it won't touch. So after almost a year from my orginal post on the topic, here are some pics after my first test ride yesterday.
  2. Thanks for the info, I looked online but couldn't find any info on the stock tooth count in the rear. With the stock banshee rear sprocket, and the stock GSXR front sprocket, it gives me a 2.56 to 1 ratio, I think I'm going to try and get that up to around a 3.0 or 3.2:1 ratio. That should give me a little more low end grunt. Thanks again, and I will for sure post pictures, or at least a link to pictures. Joe
  3. Hey guys, looking for some opinons, I'm looking to change my rear sprocket on my shee hybrid. I have a GSXR 600 motor in the bike, and due to the engines low torque and high hp, it has very little low end. I figured I could cure this a little by putting a larger gear on the back, but I can't seam to find the stock tooth count. I also would like some input on which tooth count to go with. I plan on putting some taller tires on the back to help cure my low ground clearance issue, I'm thinking a 22 or 23" tire. The bike is currently getting a custom gas tank made, and the frame re-inforced, once I get it back, I'll post some pictures. Thanks Joe
  4. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a few weeks to really figure out what I'm going to do. I just dropped my shee off at a friends house where he's going to re-do alot of the frame modification, and make me a gas tank. He said it's going to take him about 4 to 6 weeks to get it all done, after going over the frame there was alot of work needed. Oh well, guess it's better to find out now, then when I'm out riding. Joe
  5. Well as the subject says, I'm new in this ATV world, and looking for some suggestions. I have a banshee with a GSXR 600 motor in it. I'm looking to upgrade my suspension for a couple of reasons: 1: I'm a big boy 250lbs, plus I'm sure the 600 engine is heavier than a stock engine. 2: With the motorcycle exhaust on the engine, and a low oil pan, I'd like more than 3 inches of ground clearance. While test driving my shee after putting in a new clutch, I scrapped the exhaust while going up the curb into my old mans driveway!! 3: I'm pretty sure my rear shock is blown out. When I push down on the back, the bike won't come back up. It does come up a little when I get off, but only about 2 inches. (wow, that line sounds kinda dirty) I read about the YFZ450 shocks up front, and from what I understand that will raise the front end, but what should I do for the rear? Thanks, Joe
  6. "Flaming Balls" you know that used to be my nickname in high school All right, thanks for the advice guys. Once I get the tank made up I'll be sure to post some pictures. Thanks, Joe
  7. Yeah, thats what I figured I'd have to do. One of the guys I work with, his dad is a professional welder, and does lots of custom work on the side. If I can't find anything I'll just give the bike to him, and tell him to go to town, but I was kinda hoping to be able to find a tank that would work with just some mods. Joe
  8. Hey guys, I'm new to the board, and to the ATV world. I just picked up a 95 Banshee with a GSXR 600 engine. The swap is pretty much done, just needs some TLC. One of my first items to "adjust" is the fuel tank. Right now the bike has a small 1 gallon red fuel tank (same type of tank that's sold at hardware stores) stapped to the frame. I was looking at the bike, and the only realy space is under the seat above the rear shock, up to the carbs. I measured it out and it seams that I have about 7" width, 5" height, and at least 14" in length. Does anyone know where I can find a tank that will fit in that space? Or is there another area I could mount the tank? I read about people putting a battery in the nose, is there room up there for a tank? Thanks guys, Joe
