  1. Just got my bike put back together after it seized up. Before I had only DMC 916 exhaust, v-force reeds and k&N filters on it. Now it has a +4 mill stroke, 65 mill long rod pistons, shaved the head .030. The bike starts up very well and easily and will idle with no trouble, but as soon as you open the throttle it starts gasping for air. Before the rebuild it was running with 320 mains in it and the needle was at the second to top position if I remember right, and it ran like a bat outta hell. We have changed the mains from 320 to 310 to 280 even to 230 and moved the needle in all different positions. We have cleaned up the carbs and checked and rechecked everything we can think of but it just wont rev up. The plugs were totally black when we pulled them and the exhaust never gets hot. I can sit my hand the pipes the whole time its on and they only get warm but never hot which leads me to think it is too rich but going all the way down to 230 mains and seeing almost no difference from a 320 has got us stumped. No matter what we have done the there seems to be no change in the way the bike acts whether we have it rich or lean as we can go. Has anyone had a problem similar to this or have any ideas on why it would act like this?
  2. well since you want to drag and if you have the money to spend you could make it a stroker...
  3. ok thanks that helps out a lot. I think that what I might do is go ahead and get the +4mill stroker and get the spacer plate and all that done till I have some more cash for a good porting job done. Will a spacer plate come with a hot rods +4 mill crankshaft or will I have to get that seperate? Also will it affect the compression? if so how much? Thanks again this forum has been the biggest help.
  4. ok so when you say 4 mill specific port job you don't mean as in "porting and polishing" just as in getting the ports to line up right. So do you actually need a "port n polish" with a 4 mill? Sorry for asking so many questions all this is new to me and I feel like I missing something here but thanks a lot for the help.
  5. So were I to get it ported is there some sort of specific porting job for a 4 mill or can I just go with any type like a dune or drag or aggressive trail?
  6. so how much does a port job cost?
  7. Hey guys I need some info on strokers. I know there was a post earlier about 4 mill strokers and what it will do. The post was useful but I'm looking for a little more input. Since I'm replacing the crank on my '98 shee I thought why not put a stroker in it? The problem for me is I know I will have more power and all but I'm not sure how it will affect the bike and what sort of stresses will be put on the motor. My 'shee is mostly stock I have DMC 2 into 1 exhaust and v-force reeds and K&N filters. I am also having to have a rebore done since my bike seized up which is why I'm doing all this to begin with. The rebore will put me at 64.50 and so obviously I will have new pistons to match and I'm having .020 skimmed off the head. Somebody said you need to have a port job done to take advantage of the stroker but what if you don't have that done, will there be any negative effects or just less power? Do I need to have any other engine mods done besides pistons and rods and what not to match the extra stroke? Basically I would just like to know what else needs to be done to compensate for the stroke because I don't have a bunch of money to throw around and don't want to get myself into a bad situation.
  8. I'm rebuilding mine right now and just looked at some pistons that were 64.50 and that I believe that was for a .020 over bore.
  9. Ok I see what ur saying about the squish. I was just trying to get some idea of where I would be at compression wise with the pistons and the head work. I re-checked that website and it for sure says that there is OEM style pistons and Hi-Comp pistons. I think i spelled the name wrong earlier tho it is Namura pistons here is the website http://www.namura.com/index.htm
  10. hmmm.... the website definitely said they had sets of just straight up pistons and then hi comp pistons ill double check... as for the squish angle...sad to say it I dont even know what that means...lol
  11. Thanks for the offers and the info but I have a buddy that owns an automotive machine shop in town so I'm just going to get him to do it for me. I went ahead and got it milled .020 and I'm going to run high compression pistons as well.I found a brand called Numara pistons they look good and are cheaper than any Wiseco's I found and money is kinda tight right now, anyone know anything about them or have any experince with them? You guys think I will still be ok on 93 octane with the .020 and hi comp pistons? I'm new to all this motor work and stuff so I'm just kinda learning as I go along.
  12. hey guys i am in the middle of rebuilding the ole shee after she seized up on me and took the cylinders in to have them honed and decided to go ahead and get the head milled. My question is, and I know this comes up a lot on this forums, but how much should I have milled for the most power gains? I live in Shreveport , Louisiana so I'm not very much above sea level but I don't know how much exactly and also I still want to run on pump gas. I don't have many other mods other than DMC 916's, K&N's, V-Force reeds, and will be replacing my crank with a hot rods and putting new wiseco pistons in it and will also be advancing the timing +4 more than likely. Thanks for the help.
  13. Just wondering if anyone has any idea of how much power you can squeeze out of a banshee before you need to get the crank trued and welded? I will be getting mine done since I have to tear the motor apart anyways but i really only have exhaust, k&n's, and v-force reeds.
  14. Thanks for the info guys I really do appreciate your input. So like I said before I'm not much of a mechanic so any idea how much it would cost to get fixed if I do end up needing the pistons and all that? I'm sure I'll get screwed but I don't really have the time right now nevermind the know how.
  15. I have a '98 banshee that I have never had any trouble with until recently. I was riding in some dunes near where I live and a few of us were all drag racing our bikes. After the day was almost over we did a few more drag runs and on one run I felt as if my bike was a weaker than previously so I decided I would do one more run and call it a day. Bad idea. On that last run up the hill about half way up the bike lost almost all of its power and only made it up the hill from momentum. I rode the cluth down the hill and shut the bike off then when I went to kickstart it to take it to the trailer it was locked up. The kickstarter would not move. We towed it back and got it home where I got the kickstarter to move but only in increments at a time and never one smooth motion. I'm not much on mechanical type stuff but I know a little bit and I simply have no idea what happened. If this sounds familiar or somebody has an idea of what the problem is please post a reply it will be much appreciated.
