  1. I just pm'd you......I would like the clutch basket if you still have it.
  2. The Raptor is my wives. So it just gets pretty parts.....she doesn't need to go faster.
  3. I have two tubes of black and one of copper in my toolbox and they all say "Ultra". I can't remember the last time I saw one that didn't now that I think of it. Thanks for the tips. If I can get it all back together in time for my next trip I'm going to ride the hell out of it then tear it completely down when I get back. I'd like to get the frame powdercoated and get some decent looking plastic. The ones on it now are the stocks and they look like shit! So far I've only replaced the clutch on this and that wasn't that hard. But I'm def getting a Clymers manual.......from what I've seen it looks a lot better than the Haynes I'm using. I've also got an '06 Raptor 700 that has hardly any time on it.........time to start modding it.
  4. Thanks for the tip....I was watching a video posted on this site and the guy just used black RTV. I also noticed on my shift star that there is one tooth that is missing. Is that neutral? It's not missing....it's just shorter then the rest.
  5. Powerband?......Sounds a little like muffler bearings. Should I weld the ball to the shaft too? Is there a gasket between the two halves or do you just use the black RTV?
  6. I've had my '97 Shee for about 8 years now. In that time I haven't done nearly as much riding as I've wanted to and I've certainly not done the maintenance that it needed. Anyway, the last time I rode it over a year ago, it made a terrible metal on metal noise so it's been parked ever since. I broke it down a couple weeks ago and have been slowly going thru it trying to figure out the problem. When I took the clutch cover off there was some small metal pieces in it that I couldn't identify. I've taken everything down to the case and can't see anything that is noticeably where the metal came from. One of the pieces was aluminum and I think it came from the cover since there was a big chunk broke off of it. Again, I can't see anything that is broke that would've caused that much damage. The only thing I can think is that something broke before I owned it, and whenever the previous owner fixed it, they didn't get all the metal out. Question 1. Can metal from a transmission gear get into the case? Question 2. The shaft that the sprocket it on has a little horizontal play....Is that normal? So far the gears seem to shift fine and I can't see anything that was clearly broken that would make that noise. I took the stator cover off and it all appears to be normal. Should I crack the case in two since it's out of the frame and see what's what inside? Yes, I know I'm asking to be flamed so bring it on. I've spent the last two days reading almost every topic on the first 20 pages here so I feel a lot more comfortable working on it. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and know my way around the garage, but I've never worked on a quad or motorcycle before. Most recently I rebuilt the head on my Jeeps 4.0......So you can't tell me to make sure my blinker fluid is topped off. Thanks!
  7. Is anyone out there right now or planning to go? I'm planning to go next week after New Years and can't find any info about the beach conditions. There's a whole bunch of stuff online about the floods last year, but nothing for this year. Forecast says rain on Monday and Thursday. Anybody?
  8. The place outside of Fresno on the way to Yosemite is called Miami Creek. It's on 41 just past Oakhurst. I've also seen an ORV area up in the Modesto area on a road headed towards Yosemite from the northern side. If you're in Modesto, Hollister Hills isn't more then two hours from you.
  9. I don't think so. I think there is just sand in between the rim and tire causing the air to leak out. I let all the air out and was able to push the tire down enough to shoot some compressed air in there and blow most of the sand out. It held air pretty well all day, but it was completely flat by the next morning. I'm just going to take the tire off the rim and re-seat it. I need to get some new paddles anyway as I only have one set to share between my two quads.
  10. I went to Pismo yesterday and rode my wifes stock 700r all day. Went out to the drags where there were a few Banshees runnin alcohol that I wasn't even going to line up with. However, the group I was with had a heavily modded 450 that ran all over me. There was also a piped 660 that I ran heads up with all day draggin. When he was goin WOT down Sand Higway I could give him 100ft and still catch him and pass him like he was sittin still in 4th. I'm not saying the Raptor is a better ride then the Shee, but it's got a lot of potential. I think I could have been faster if I'd have remembered to shift sooner. I kept trying to wind it out like I was on my Shee. :ermm: Plus, it sure was nice to not have to worry about mixin gas. When we were done for the day I just dumped the extra 5 gallons in the truck and drove home.
  11. I got a quick get out of jail free card tomorrow and I'm going to head to the coast to ride for the day with some friends. I just pulled my paddles out and one was flat. After I put air in it I could hear it leaking around the bead. Can I use some Fix-A-Flat for a quick fix? I'll get it fixed for real eventually, but not before tomorrow morning. I suppose I could ride with the stock knobby's, but that'll be no fun at all. Ohh yeah....and the Banshee is down for unscheduled maintenance so I'm riding the wifes 700r Raptor....I'm goin to need all the help in the sand I can get.
  12. What's sad is that this is the way a lot of young people think is the correct way to right (pun intended). I'm a member of several boards (jeeps, banshee, raptor etc.) and you can always tell when a highschool aged person is posting. I wonder what they do when they fill out job applications? P.S. If you're an intelligent highschool student reading this and you know how to write without looking like you're typing a text message please don't get offended. This rant is directed to the lazy ones who will undoubtedly be serving you and I at the drive thru window one day soon.
  13. Thanks for the welcome! I hit Miami the day after I bought my quad. And the first time I exited the seat in a forward motion was up on the trails above Shaver. I was at Pismo this weekend and there were the most Banshees I've ever seen there. Usually I've seen a couple and the 4 strokes always out number them at the drags. This time it was the other way around. However, I was able to beat a few of the 4 strokes and I couldn't even get out of 3rd gear! What's your guys opinion on shifting? My buddy that talked me into gettin a quad in the first place says he never clutches when he's haulin balls out. That's pretty much the way I ride, but it doesn't seem to be working that well when I'm draggin.
  14. Should I assume by your screen name you're in Hollister? I've been wanting to get over there with the Jeep. I've heard there is an area you can ride ATV's, but you have to stay there and can't hit the trails with them. I'm in Fresno. I wish there was a place closer then pismo to do some riding. My wife and I were talking about buying some land and building a track, but that takes a lot of money and time.....either of which we don't have mass quantities of.
  15. Hello all! I've had my '97 for 3 years and I just bought my wife an '06 Raptor ( she wanted to be able to push a button to start it ). Anyway, I haven't ridden either one much, but now that we both have one I foresee a lot of Pismo trips. As a result I've decided that it's time to clean up my junk and do some mods. I'm familiar with the search function so I'll always try that first, but I may still end up askin a question. :geek: Please don't flame too much. It already has aftermarket pipes (FMF), but I'm not sure of the carb specs. I suppose the best way to find out is to just tear down and start over. I replaced the clutch (myself) about 4 months after I first bought it and that wasn't too hard. I think I should be able to do just about anything else to it as long as I look at the manual and take my time. Thanks in advance for all the help.
