This whole post at first glance seems pretty childish when one considers the real life and death issues happening in the world right now. But looking at the initial deal and the principle involved, it makes perfect sense to me. I, being a little older and raised in a different era see a situation that seems to be more and more common in today's business. There is no honor and integrity in the high twenty to low forty year old generation of self-employed business owners. No one keeps their word or wants to take responsibility for any of their actions. I believe it can be traced back to their upbringing. Anyone not believing this to be true, consider this. What was the deal, was the price paid, was the product received? As a self-employed airconditioning contractor in south georgia. If someone asks me to do a job, even a job I don't want to do, and I give that individual a quote to do the job, receive the money for the job, and the customer feels he didn't get what was promised, it is up to me to make it right. And it doesn't take a rocket scientist to KNOW who is wrong, If I didn't deliver, it's my fault. I am the professional in the equation (at least I hope so since I am the one getting paid) and as the professional, should know if I provided the service as quoted. And if I didn't deliver something due to the customers ignorance of the job, it is still my RESPONSIBILITY to make sure the customer understands or to correct the problem.
So the question is, was the transaction so screwed up that all was misunderstood, or was a list of services and parts guaranteed, paid for and not delivered?
I hate to say, but I have quoted a price for a fan motor before based on past purchases only to find out that the fan motor I needed for this particular job was more than double what I thoght. What did I do, replaced the motor as agreed for the price agreed, let the customer know(why, because I didn't say you had to be modest or humble) and lost money on the deal, but kept my word and gained something more important than the money, a happy, satisfied customer that has sent me more new customers than any paid advertising could do. And if this offends any of the self-employed age group I am referring to, If you ever have to ask yourself "Did I do something wrong or not deliver", then you probably did.
