Know who cut the transmission? I might be interested in a swap for a stocker.

I had a set, way back in the day. Think I may go that route again...
They were converted to alky, and oval bored to 29.5. I cant, for the life of me, remember who did them.
Anyone?

Thanks for the advice. I'll try adjusting the shock set up first to get that back end down. The two banshees I was losing to had stut set ups and were hooking instantly. They were 200 lb riders with the same gearing and same tires. I was losing by 1 to 2 bike lengths and my trap speed was 4mph faster. If I could get this to launch I'm set.
Sounds like you talked a bit with these guys. Since they were hooking up better than you, why not try a similar set-up? Its atleast a starting point.
I think at 150lbs, the +10, w a bar might be much. But then again, every rider, and track is different.
Yea it is. If you could run 4.6 with a 350cc banshee you will win.
Could be done. Ive done it in sand.
350, 2-5 override, methanol (stocker) carbs, +6 w a bar, 22" ultralight haulers blah blah blah...but that was long ago.

ya know....the others might be right. It could be as simple as the chain jumping teeth. Have you checked the tension, and sprockets for excessive wear/broken teeth? They're much easier to check than the bearings...
-
wow
I'll second that.
Its simple- out of frames are just that- they hang out of the frame, easily becoming the widest part of the bike. I mean, if you think you can ride a top end pipe on trails, and dont mind ripping the pipes off/bending the shit out of them, then yeah- theyre excellent trail pipes.

Wrong forum...but thats ok, someone will probably move it.
Trying to diagnose a problem like that via the internet isnt the easiest task. Since you said it your hearing a pop towards the rear of the bike, and it doesnt want to run as hard- my first stop would be the bearings in the carrier. I'll bet you'll find an issue there.

I'll take the pistons and related....
-
yeah, id start 230-240 w lid n snorkel on...
-
Your slides...have you checked them? Im almost positive theyre not correctly installed.
-
OKO makes a 30mm carb, that are usually cheaper than the Mikuni and Keihin's.... I think user "jasons" has or is using them. Ya might check with him, see how he likes em.
IMO- with that 4mil id be looking at 33's or a lil bigger.
-
Maybe a FMF cage? Ive seen some just like that....long ago.
-
Hmm. you shouldnt have changed the airflow of the motor with just a cable. Is it lifting the slides all the way? Needles sitting all the way down in the slides?
If it was me, I'd pop the carbs off and give a good cleaning.

Thanks for the response went and tightened it harder to 30 ft/lbs still leaking bubbles are a lot smaller though. How much can I go to safely? I don't want to break off the plug in the head I know aluminum expands a bit when it heats up and could seal it off?
only one way to find out.... get that dood hot and test it. how does it run?
-
sleeper nailed it brah....pressure test it, let us know whachya find.
-
Right on, fix that o-ring and little jet and see what happens.
As for case oil coming up thru the rings and making thru the exhaust.....Not unless you have a bad ring. I wouldnt worry to much about that untill everything else is up to par and ya take it for a ride. Then keep your eye on the case oil level to see if your losing some...

...changes the air flow into the motor. w/ out it you could prolly get away w a needle adjustment to cure the bog/pop.
-
...pull you air filter set-up n look into the back of carbs. Blip the throttle a few times, notice if the slides move in sync. If not adjust untill they do.
If one carb is leaking, your definatly having an issue with a float/needle. Check for debris, and or adjust float height. I'm willing to bet this is where your issue is...

Stock carbs?
Choke tube in place?
Slide's in correctly?
Cable adjusted properly?
-
Gotchya.... I'm thinking leaky oring in the head on the "bad" side.
-
Firts, i'd switch the plug wires, see if it switches sides. If so, its the coil. Simple fix.
If its not the coil, its going to be a carb issue of some sort, regardless of them being new or not. You should check a few things
1. Floats, one side could be off- check, and then double check.
2. Carb sync.- pull air cleaner set-up, look in the back of the carbs to make sure the slides are moving at the same time.
3. Air Screws, make sure they're evenly set.
4. Choke tube, its wicked important to have in place.
Good luck, let us know if any of these help!

thanks fella's...the pics are a couple years old. I have since pulled the removable top, and made it more of a roadster- kind of like the 67-72 & 73-5 k5's. I cut the half roof off, and chopped almost 6" off the windshield.... I'll see about getting some new pics posted up soon
