  1. To me the stock shocks aren't the problem, its the really shity a-arms set-up. The stock shocks worked great for me until I got new ones and realized they aren't that great. They work better if you are flying. They are pretty rough going slow. They are OK for jumping though. Just not as good as $1200 ones.
  2. I think they are a little expensive. There are too many shock companies out there to pay that much. When I started racing there was Works, PEP, Ohlins, and Axis if you wanted to spend the money. I got the first set of Elka's for my Banshee in my picture when no one knew what Elka was. I think they are great shocks for the money.
  3. Legend hu? The outlaw frame is lonestar's 250R based frame that uses a Banshee motor. They told me after 2 phone calls and 3 email using 3 different email addresses that the 88 and 89 model 250R COMPLETE front and rear ends including shocks and linkage bolt right up to the frame. It gives you Honda geometry and suspension. A no-link is availible also like loboboy has. The Laeger Protrax frame is not like the Lonestar in the front or back It has its own Protrax T-Pin front end that goes with it and unless its changed it uses a D-arm upper A-arm like the stock frame and the CR 500 link in that back. That gives 12" of travel front and back. You still use 250R brakes, axle, bearing carrier, and hubs. If you built one all new it I thinktook about $20,000. The Lonestar was cheaper since you didn't have to buy the CR linkage($500) and ProTrax front-end($2,200). It used regular a-arms and they didn't do the CR500 linkage. Laeger is the way to go if you can afford it. Look at www.duncanracing.com at the pictures and see Laeger Banshee's. They would still out-do anything ever built with the right rider. They had the handling and suspension of the Protrax 250R's and the Banshee motor. If you don't know what the Protrax front-end is look at www.laegerracing.com and see one. Go to the 250R or 450R pages for a good look.
  4. I plan to motocross mine. I kept hearing that 2007 was the last year for 2 strokes to race AMA or ATVA races so I sold mine out of fear I'd be buried with it. I haven't heard anything like that since I sold mine. I probably won't get started till next year. Going back on the trail riding thing. A powervalve motor is easier to ride in trails than one without.
  5. The a-arms you have should be 250R a-arms. You should be able to bolt a 250R ProTrax front-end right onto the frame you have. They told me that it used " HONDA " suspension front and back when I was looking at them. Ask around. That should work.
  6. I'm thinking about building another Banshee and I've seen a lot of people that used RZ350 motors. I don't know anything about them other than I saw where they have powervalves. If I can find a ProTrax frame used for a decent price I'll probably go that route so I wouldn't really have to have a whole Banshee to start since the gas tank, seat, and plastic are the only other Yamaha parts I would need. Anyone had any expirience with these motors that could give me an idea of what I would be getting into? AND will the cylinders work with a Banshee bottom-end? Thanks
  7. The Dyno I was refering to was used to set up Joe Byrds 450R last year before Loretta Lynn's. It showed 62 on his Honda. Who ever says I'm full of shit can tell him that too and the guy who had the Banshee.
  8. When I got my Banshee the title said 49 hp. My friend had one with Toomey's, 2 into 1 air filter(no airbox), and mild porting( 3 - 4 hp), and the carbs set up right and his pulled 64 on the Dyno where he worked. They should be close to 60 with a fresh motor, pipes, opened up intake and the right jetting. The 2004/05 TRX450R's were supposed to have 33 and compared to my old stock Banshee, since you all say they are more like 35hp stock, I'd said the 450R didn't have but 20. My WR450 is supposed to have 47 the way I have it and isn't not even close to the power my Banshee had modded. Stock it was about the same as the WR is now. 49 might be a little high but not much. 2 or 3 hp maybe.
  9. 14/41 is stock and thats what I ran with pipes, jet kit, no airbox and 18" tires. The more power you have the more broad you want your gears so you shift less.
  10. The Honda if you like Honda's and the YFZ if you like Yamaha's. The LTR and the Honda are not much stock and take a fair amount of cash to really upgrade. You'll get more out of the YFZ for the least amount of money. Basicially a muffler, jet kit, fuel screw you can get to is it outside the motor and thats really all they need. Air filter's really don't do anything but cause problems. My next one will be a full blown MX race bike. I'll probably go with the LTR since I'm 6'1" and feel like a giant sitting on a bar stool on the YFZ and Honda. My unbiased opinion is the LTR if you are looking to sink some serious money into one and the YFZ if not. You can never go wrong with the blue ones. Just make sure you get the one you need.
  11. I would love to have had a LoneStar or Laeger framed Banshee. The fastest Banshee's I have ever seen to this day were Doug Eichner and Keith Marks at Lorretta Lynns in 1997 in Open Pro-Am. They were both on Pro-Trax Banshee's and went twice as fast then as the baddest 450's go now. I trashed my frame and started to part out the bike to build a LoneStar Outlaw Banshee like your's but I just sold enough to put it back with the stock frame. I had a guy build a set of a-arms for me and it handled good enough to run with the 250R's and 450 aftermarket bikes.

  13. I had a stock motor(.020 with Wiesco pistons), Toomey T-5's, Toomey 2 into 1 air filter, and the DynoPort jet kit and needles and had plenty of power to clear any jump. My problem was keeping a clutch. You have to keep 2 fingers on the clutch even with a ported ( and everything else) motor. I thought I had to have a hopped up motor when I started. After 3 people( one old racer and 2 engine builders) told me to leave it stock and learn to ride it I did that and I was a believer. Good pipes, open airbox or not one like mine was, and good jetting are plenty. Your looking at around 60 HP with just that. It just takes time to learn a Banshee period and even more time to learn to MX one if its in exelent shape.
