just bought a used '90 working stator and ignition coil for $35 shipped off ebay. Hopefully the guy is a fast shipper. wish me luck!

Well I guess trying to pull start it is pointless.. still not getting no spark off the plugs.. So I blew the dust off the old multimeter. Needless to say tonight I only got to test the 3 stator coils, ignition coil wire leading into the stator. red/green and came out with a big fat infinity/zero(no beep)Got 121 on pickup coil rednwht/grnwht(beep). Got a BEEP on Lighting coil(yellow/black) with a reading of 2(this digital one doesn't do 0. I think so i'm hoping the 0./2-4 range is correct also. This digital multi is old I think the values are flubbing slightly, gonna see how the rest of the numbers come out tomorrow. If they're on point I guess I can get me a stator.. atleast most likely it's not my cdi box right? but then again wouldn't that be easier to change out? How hard is new stator to install? Just curious. Ricky stator? or which if the above is the case.. . Also disconnected the TORS power hardness from the loop, should I plug it back in until I get one of those boxes to replace it? or Can I just unplug and unscrew it or will effect the rest of the electrical system/starting?

rockin! (*bad stator*) I just got my puller and flywheel nut off today, had to take it to autoshop let the guy do it with impact of course. soon as we removed the flywheel sure enough you could see the copper coils severed on some of the perimeters. Slapped used one on and now she cranks on first kick everytime better than it did when I bought it, big thanks to all on forum who helped and to the compilers of the elecfaq! waaahooo -- now i gotta go get that nut impacted back on and she bees runnin gud. hah.

I hear everyone say get this manual, but where do I get it?

Wallrat, I just got to read this and woah thanks for so much info. Atleast I know other stuff to check and what to do when rebuild time comes! thanks a bunch. After I find out what the shop guy says and if it's a small fix i'll then start checking my compression myself and get a tool. The guy said it wasn't even firing to the engine and tried new sparks. He said it could be the firing coil or electric, hopefully that is all. Then i'll know how sound my baby is, wish my luck guys. I will know more closer towards the end of the week, can't wait.

far from new it's a 2k1. I feel reliable after a guy who works on two strokes/motors and know alot about them is going to fix it. he said it had nothing to even do with the motor tried the spark plugs and tested them on kick even new ones weren't firing. He hopes it's like the firing coil or something simple like that. Basically one of two things. not getting gas for some reason or it's something electrical. Since it was runnng find the night before i'm hoping it something very simple and small. The guy will get to finish start looking at it at the end of this week so i'll see. The guy knew how to crank the banshee right up and we know first hand he know his stuff so I believe th guy will get it knocked out real soon. He's like and individual and works on mowers and god know what else. He supposedly has his stuff down. With him totally rulling out the engine pretty much beeing the problem not even firing i'm hoping that's all it is. I'll know more as the end of the week nears.

Took it to a shop guy tried to fire it right up checked it out and thinks it's the firing coil, he said it's either something electric or it isn't getting gas. He's gonna start with the obvious and go from there. He checked the spark plugs and put good ones in, it's not even firing. Hopefully it's something small.

come on know one knows roughly how much if it's a bad rings/pistons? or does everyone do em thereself? I hope it's not that i'm gonna try cranking it after letting it set. If not guess i'll have to see if this one guy can fix it or I don't know really lol. Or maybe it got flooded.. sigh.

Well i tried engine starting fluid, my dad cleaned/removed blew on the plugs. tried the choke. Cleaned the filter. still will not kick over if i hold the gas in while i kick it it makes that flutter sound. I don't know why it will not start now.. my lef hurts from kicking it all day got it started after a bunch this morning now it will not turn at all. I fiddled with the reserve/switch and forgot wich position it was oiriginaly in but i kicked it every which way still no go. my shee is all stock. luckly come to find out either i will take it to find out what is wrong and have it fixed if it does need a rebuild how much do they usually run? i'm praying it's flooded, if it is how long should i wait before trying to kick it again? please let me know about this.

Aye gassed it up, mixed oil and gas properly. hor can i check to see if my plugs are fouled and what's the best way and where is the air filter. under the seat? if so what is the best method to clean it, thanks! I doubt it's the pistons and rings if so how much does a rebuild on them coast roughly?

How do I push start it?

**just filled the tank after fighting with it this morning** banshee started right up last night when i bought it, got it home rode it some last night. Woke up this morning noticed the tank was getting really low so i goto crank it and fight with it for about 20-30mins finally get it to turn over and crank after tons of kicks. let it idle for a good while. Rode it some until it was pretty much out of gas shut it off and now I can't get it to crank. It doing the same thing it was doing this morning on kick. I'm hoping maybe it's flooded.. I don't see why though. When I drop it into gear it rolls then locks like it did before in neutral it rolls fine but will not start on kick makes no sound except for the kicker. If I push the gas in while I kick it, it does like it did this morning it kinda sounds like it wants to turn over start. Could something be low on fluid or what? is it better to hold the cluch in while in neutral and kick it to start it or dont hold the clutch and or break? What is the best method to crank it. it doesn't look like the oil stick near the kick is low it looks like it goes halfway up. it's doing the same thing it did this morning with a full tank it just will not kick start no matter what i'm letting it sit as i type this. please someone tell me it's something simple and if so how to fix it. When I even finally got it started this morning and gased it/idled it a bit and stayed idle even without any gas with the clutch in. Am I flooding it holding in the clutch or what? someone please help me, thanks! this is pizzing me off.

Chase I appreciate that offer I might take you up on it especial when I get some extra cash now. Gonna ride 'er for a little while then start modding the sucker. I can't decide though I kinda like the blue and white oem yamaha original body kits or maybe a solid black body kit with the rest powder coated? If so where's a good place to get a body kit/aftermarket--ebay? or want ads here? Brand? I really like yours too. Reason I kind of want a black body kit is because all our cars and trucks are black with chrome rims etc and black trailer. What's the guys turnaround on the powdercoating? Also I might go ahead and get my frame done while i'm at it. How much does the full frame run, rough guess? I defin. want to lose the spray paint soon.

Thanks but I just bought that one locally. It actually looks better than the pics a little.. but damn did it fly i got up into about 3-4rth gear and couldnt get higher and it freaked me out lol.
-
Chase that's one awesome shee. Thanks for the link to the pictures also, they will help me alot when it comes time to upgrade mine.
-
Talked to the guy and am going to look at it later tonight will most likely be part of the sheeHQ! guy was real nice said it ran great and fast for $1600 I can't pass it up. If it's not got any suprises that were not seen in the picture i'll be getting it tonight. Can't wait till pops gets off with the truck. Wish me non lemon luck. I asked about the compression and all that the guy didn't know though he is just selling it for a friend that lost one of his pawn shops due to katrina. I figure if it runs strong at that price I really can't go wrong. I want to learn how to do my rebuilds myself. Wish me luck guys.
-
hmm, he said the guy would sell it for $1675... can't decide to get it or not. How much are plastics and decent pipes out of curiosity.... If I decide to go look at it. What should I look for, or ask? Tough decision too.. might be my only banshee I find local for quiet awhile hmmm.. what do you pros think of it for the price and photos... also I'm new to atv's how often is it required the "engine be rebuilt" and what does that entail also. I've heard people tell me about the engine beeing rebuilt do they must have this done or can I just regular maintainance and ride it for years. let me know please, thanks a bunch guys!
-
Thaks a bunch for the info guys and yeah dead op that one looks alot cleaner nice than the one i bid on. props So you guys think I could get better. The guy told me the reserve and it was $1750. Only problem is I live in Biloxi, Mississippi. So finding a decent ATV in decent pickup decent is hard due to hurricane katrina. So i'm kind of in a pickle not alot of options. Or I guess I could keep looking but with only having $2k in my hand to spend shipping is kinda out of my price range. oh what to do...
-
Aye already did and that one auction as I stated is also in my home town so all i'd have to do is go pick it up. I don't know if they guy will sell it for that price though. Read my previous thread please guys, thanks.
-
Hi guys I bid on this banshee but the reserve was not yet me and the guy has to check to see with the owner if he wants to part with it for that price. can some knowledgeable banshee pros check out those pictures in this ebay link here - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-Yamaha...1QQcmdZViewItem How good of condition does this banshee look to you pros non cosmetic wise. let me know your opinions i'm still waiting for a reply back if the guy is gonna take my bid offer of $1675. let me know what you think guys.
-
yes the frame/ground up. I thought maybe it could be done. I'm not looking to build a chromed out monster just an average nice looking 'shee. And Decon thanks for that info.

Ok scrap the idea of trying to build one then. will you guys look at my last post with the link to the pictures of that one and let me know then thanks.
