  1. Just came back from one sweet ass ride. Starts 1st kick hot ,cold , warm. Small stumble off idle but know the 27.5 will clean that up. Think I will take your advise and throw the 280 in as well. I can re and re the carbs in my sleep now. One simple fact "I would not of figured this out without your help". Thanks again and untill my next problem.... See Ya
  2. Well it's fixed Float bowles were swapped and thus choke did not work. Swapped bowles this AM and it started 2nd kick. Thanks to all and special thanks to JKJK who got me on the right track. This quad was only used in the sand dunes and most likley didn't have a big problem as it was warmer out. I also bought it on a warm day so it started then. Anyways enough of this typing I'M Going Ridding !!!!
  3. Yes I think we are on the right track. It is now cold and will not start , just like it doesn't have a choke. When my pilot jets come in I will see for sure. I also got some 280's in the Dynojet kit should I put them in as well. Again thanks for all your help so far I think I have this thing beat.
  4. Well I thought I would give her one more push start. Got it running and ran the crap out of her. Once warm i could play with the air screws. Had to put them in to 1/2 out to get it to idle. Now she runs realy strong with the new 270s and dynojet needles. Idles and starts 1st kick. Ilet her cool off for 1-2 hrs and while still a little warm she started up but took a bit to keep it running like the choke not working. JKJK you mentioned That the brass tube should be in the float bowl with the choke in it. I cleaned the carbs one at a time and did not check that. Does only one bowl have this brass tube? If so that could be it. I have ordered new 27.5 pilots and when I put them in I will check.I think the other problem was the leaky fuel petcock leaking fuel into the Cyl and crank and loading it up.Thanks for all the help so far and let me know about the brass tube in the float bowl
  5. Yes to basicly everything with the exception to the possible swapped flooat bowls. I'm gonin in..
  6. Yes slides and needles have free movment. As a side note the dynojet needles are approx 5mm longer than the ones I pulled out. I called dynojet and they said if they are 58.9mm long they are the right ones. (they are) Again I just bought this and as it had FMF pipes and K&N I would assume that the previous owner rejetted. (I bought it from a dealer so I don't know the original owner) Yes slides balanced, Yes fresh BR8ES. When I looked at it the 1st time it fired up first kick. Then I brought it home and it started 1st or2nd kick. Went out to ride it and it did not start so I push started it and once it was warm it ran great with no lean or rich conditions noticable (I have been riding and working on bikes for over 30 years) I could shut it off and start it 1st kick every time. Brought it home and It was hard to start cold again. Went riding a second time and it started up cold but it ran rough untill it warmed up then ran great as always untill it eventualy would not idle without my hand on the throttle. Disconected the TORS switch on the thumb throttle and she ran great for the rest of the day. Next day cold, and did not start. That is when I ripped into the carbs to see what jetting I had, Put 270 mains in, Dynojet needles, cleaned everything and no starty. Push started it and it ran but seemed like it was running out of fuel,ie reved high then bogged then just before it died would rev up again, ran like this for 45 sec then died. This went on 2 more times and thats where I am at now. I think I will go back to the jetting I had , get it running then jet from there. This is gettig personal...
  7. I checked the float height at 21 mm. Both ok. I just checked the flow at the fuel petcock and it flowed 500cc's of fuel or approx. 15 oz. in 30 sec. At the float bowl drains, both flowed freely but took 1.5 mins to flow 500 cc's I think this is enough fuel supply. I did not check the reeds when I had the carbs off but I will next time which looks like it will be soon. Again I rode this for at least 2 hours and once warm ran strong and started 1st kick. My original problem was just cold starting. But now it wont keep running when it does start on a push start. I am thinking of going back to the original needles and 190 mains , get it running and jet from there. Just ned more time to play with it before the poker run on sunday. Any more thoughts? Thanks again
  8. I did check the sync and it was spot on. I will go out 2.5 on the air screw and see if that helps. I did however have it rev at 3-4000 RPM (and higher) which would have taken it out of the pilot jet/ air screw range. I hate the thought of taking it to the dealer.....
  9. well not a lot of luck. I just finished. installing new 270 mains ,Dynojet needles3rd position, cleaning carbs, fixed fuel petcock leak, cleaned screens on fuel petcock, 1.5 turns out on air screw and then kicked and kicked. Lots of spark but plugs dry. Put a bit of gas in each cyl. and it ran for a few seconds. push started it down the lane and got it running but would not idle. all the time playing with the choke it would rev and then bog then rev again. I losened off the fuel cap to make sure it was getting air, turned the drain screws on the float bowls, fuel would flow. Pushed started it 2 more times with the same result.Spark and compression and air filter good so it must be running out of fuel but unsure how? Any suggestions?Am I missing anything?
  10. I just bought it and was supprised to see the 190s. I ride at 0-2000 feet so I will put in some 270 or 280s.
  11. Thanks for the input I will give that a try. I am waiting to get some larger mains before I put it together. It did seem wet with fuel in the reed area so I hope that is it. Great forum, glad I joined.
  12. OK just took the carbs off and it has 25 pilot jets and what looks to be 190 mains?. I know the mains will not affect the starting that mutch so thats a whole other topic. I blew out all the passages and everything looked fine. Again it runs great when hot. I did however notice that with the fuel petcock in the off position gas still leaked out the supply line. The gasket inside had a chunk out of it so I turned it around for now. This would have allowed gas to seep into the cylenders if the needle and seat did not hold. That may explain the wet plugs and hard cold starting, once warm it would not have enough time to flood out. Does this sound right or have I been breathing gas fumes to long. What should I run for main jet? One I find out I will reassemble and try it again. Thanks
  13. I just did a comp. test and it read 123 left and 120 right so I should be OK there. I will pull the carbs tonight and see what is in there for jets. Because the plugs read wet when I pull them I would say rich on the pilot jet but as it does not start when it's cold I say lean. I will try leaning it out and richening it up some more with the air screw as well. Thanks for the help so far. Any other ideas if the pilot jet is not the answer?
  14. Thanks for the feedback. Those jumper cables are starting to hurt. The chock tube is conected, air screws where 2 turns out ,I set it at 1.5, I disconeted the TORS just incase, air filter is clean and I have tried starting it with it off as well, I have tried choke on and off and gas on and off.New plugs installed and again lots of spark. I will check compression and let you know. I put my finger over the plug hole and it felt strong on both cylenders. I will buy a manual today but does anyone know what the compression should be off hand. what pilot jet should I use with the FMF's and K&N at 0-2000feet 5-10degree C? Thanks
  15. Hi I'm a new owner of a 98 Banshee and am having cold starting problems. The quad is stock with exception of FMF pipes and mufflers and K&N filter. The quad will not start when cold unless it is jump started. once it finaly starts it takes a while to warm up and once warm it runs great. Ride for over 15 mins and shut it off it will start up one first kick every time. A seperate or linked problem just occured last ride. The quad would not idle unless the throttle was held on a small amount, I disconected the TORS at the thumb throttle and that problem went away. When it is cold and does not start I have pulled the pluge and they are wet but have good spark every time. I have not pulled the jets to see what is in there but will and report back. Is this a TORS problem, jetting or? Any help would be greatly appriciated.
