The kid that was hit is 19. He was putting the flag in the sand about 5 feet from the back of truck because the closest lane kept getting closer. We had moved back once already to give the racers more room. The kid on the banshee actually ran over the flag on the run before his dad took over. And yes the guy that was hit, splashed water on the rider as he passed but did not throw the bottle. On the next run, he stood right next to the flag with an empty pop can. The guy on the Banshee and the guy by the flag made eye contact as he was lining up. It was absolutely a game of chicken and neither guy flinched. Both guys were out of line, it is unfortunate for all involved that their egos got the better of them.

The guy that got hit was in our group and after a night in the hospital, has been released without serious injury. I was standing less than 10 feet from him when it happened and have never seen anything like it!! He must be made of rubber, he has no broken bones. I ran out on the track to grab his shoe and it must have been 100 feet from the truck. The rangers told us the guy who hit him had hit somebody else earlier and they were looking for him already. He turned himself in at the North gate within an hour and was out on bail by the end of the day.
