BANSHEE BREAKING FROM MID TO HIGH RANGE
dirtbike77 replied to dirtbike77's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
ive cleaned the carbs out twice taking apart and cleaning everything with compressed air and carb cleaner.... i checked for the right float bowls and its right... it seems like fi the bike sits and ildes for a minute or two and i take off the bike runs pretty decent from forst to second and when i go a bit faster the the bike breaks up... so it almost like the bike is starving for gas... it has the stock hoses and stock petcock? gas see,s to be flowing pretty well? -
im working on a 89 banshee, it has t-5 pipes with 270 main jets... the bike has the vent holes in the air box and no lid.... the bike was said to have jus had a top end job done... the bike when u first take of in first the bike rips and then when it shifts from second to third at higher roms the bike breaks up.... and it backfires ''im thinking its a lean condition'' so i put the lid on it and it ran a lil better but it still breaks up at mid to high rpms..? i did a plug chop and the left cylinder plug looks like a biege to tan color the right plug hardly looked touched.. these were brand new plugs... i did a compression check and the left side has 130 and the right side has about 130 as well? what else to check

anyone know any great tips on how to clean up rusted pipes... i know u probably wont get them back to normal but a quick cleaner upper would be great.

I CURRENTLY HAVE A BANSHEE WITH T-5'S STOCK TIMING... IT HAS THE TWO INTO ONE SET UP.. ON IT ALREADY THE BIKE RUNS PRETTY DECENT ALREADY.. BUT I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MORE POWER FROM BOTOM END TO MIDRANGE, AND TOP SIDE IF POSSIBLE.... IM TEARING THE BIG DOWN TO DO A TOP END REBUILD AND GO THROUGH THE TRANSMISSION.. BUT WHILE I GOT THE BIKE PART ... I WAS WONDERING IF I SHOPULD GET THE CYLINDERS PORTED AND POLISHED.. AND WOULD IT MAKE A DIFFRENCE WTH THE TWO CARB SET UP? WHAT OTHER MODS CAN I DO?
-
i figured out wat is was... the stator plate had become loose... and it would cause the bike to idle a lil high and break up at high speeds... once i itightened up all the way... she ran fine
-
i have a 1998 banshee t-5 pipes and silencers two into one carb set up... i just recently got down rebuilding the bike.... i removed the air box and installed a k.n filter... when i first crun the bike up it idle and ran fine.... when i drove it it ran like a raped ape... now all of sudden i came home for a minute and i left it sittin there idling i came back to go riding and the bike started bogging down.... it would take of in first but when i layed in it, the bike started to sputter and almost sound like it wanted to back fire? i checked the plugs and the werent wet? i replaced the pulgs with new ones and the same thing? the bike has no tors?
-
i think i found the problem.... well i got home and i changed the stator again? the pick up coil? flywheel and still the same thing... idles and bogs down when it is wot... so i went on to check the wire harness.... and i found a shitty wire job under the tank and i gues by me removing and installing the tank the wires some how got messed up,,, we needles to say now when i hot it it sounds like raped ape! everyone thanx for your help its greatly appreciated
-
ok i guess im gonna have to go through and check all the wires again? but wat gets me that the bike ran decent for about two to three minutes and then it started to bog down? now im at a lost... and the plugs are black and wet?
-
im still at kinda of a lost wat else should i be looking for , problems in the wire harness? stator, pick up coil? c d i
-
not trying to be a smarty ofr nothing but i tried that i had that problem with my lawn mowers, when the float cracks and causes the bike to flood? guess i try again tomorow.... but the bike was seeming to run fine and jus all of a sudden bogged out? oh yea the bike has no tors on it wat so ever
-
as far as it being eletrical wat else can it be.....? i cleaned the carb twice and i know its clean,,, i checked the needle abd seat and its wiered becuz every now and then itll start leaking out the over flow?
-
yes i tried adjusting the air screws and nothing... it ildes fine and soon as you hit the gas the bike falls flat on its face
-
well i switched the whole stator and flywheel with the stock settings and still the same thing wat should be my next option to try?
-
could bad wiring cause the bike to run rough like that
-
YES I TRIED THAT... STILL THE SAME THING? WAT ELSE IS THERE TWO CHECK..... I NOTICED THE HEADLIGHTS WNO WORKING, IF THE WIRED THAT RUNS WITH THE STATOR THAT CONNECTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BIKE IF THAT PLUG IS CROSSED WOULD IT CAUSE A PROBLEM? SHOULD I TRY NEW PLUGS
-
yes i tried adjusting the gap and the same thing? i put fresh gas? the plugs are oily? its ildes fine but when you gas it it bogs down?
-
i have a banshee, with the two into one set up.... i just recently modified my stock stator plate to advnance the timing a bit and i cranked the bike up and it idle and ran fine when i rev'ed it up.... i took it out down the block it was running pretty good the bike was still cold so it was still trying to clear out a bit..... all of a sudden when i punched it to take of it would die down? it would idle fine but would sound like its getttin ready to cut off when i rev'ed it? made it back home checked the carb? '' fine ' jets clean''? check for a sheded key and loose flywheel? ''both were fine''? the bike has no tors? i even switched the stor and flywheel off another engine i had laying around and the same thing? ghuys ant help would be greatly appreciated
-
when u guys mention advancing the timing when the stator is on the bike u twist clockwise or counter clockeise?
-
jus wondering if anyone here has modified thier stock stator plate to advnace the timing? or is it possible with the stock plate? will advance it four degree's make a noticeable diffrence? do have any pics of stock modified plates?
-
well tht might be my problem the bike will not idle and ive tried adjusting the screws on the carbs, the throttle cablre and nothing.... i removed the air fliter and noticed there's a str8 line, and no curve over the back of the slide?
-
wat kinda problems can i expect the bike to have if the carbs slides are installed back wards?
-
alright heres the problem im fixing my 99 banshee.... just put a fresh top end and gaskets, brand new spark plugs, cleaned carbs and etc... the bike is bored .30 over with t-5 pipes and silencers.... the bike will not idle? you have to keep playing with the throttle to keep it runnin.... its kinda bogs down a lil bit when starting out but once you get in second gear it rips? i already cleaned te carbs twice? checked and cleaned the pilot jets.... i tried adjusting the idle the float hieght,, and at ties when the you rev it up to keep it running , its stays up reving high and evenutally cuts off suddenly? i tried adjusting the air screws, even doing the plug chops to check the color and its like a dark carmel color? when the bike is running i sprayed around the motor checking for vacum leaks and she's air tight?
-
figured it out... first off the fuel was contaminated... and we change the cdi box and now she cranks and runs fine
-
u think the key could be sheded again?
-
anyone
