ok so the story starts with my putting on some new oem intakes w/gaskets...and a new coolant hose. All oem. Then i start it up and it runs perfect, so i take it for a ride and snap the damn chain when i got on it hard on pavment and had to get towed home by some kid on a ds650 so that pist me off enough. I looked at my case and nothing was broke as i have a case saver. Here is where the questions are...it was leaking fuel because i need a new petcock and i noticed where the cases meet together up front by the exhaust something was bubbling so i cleaned it off and started it up. Nothing happened for a minute then it looks like oil started to bubble out there a TINY bit. I also figured out where my oil leak was, it is comming out of the clutch side out of a wierd looking indentation...there is one on the stator side and one on the clutch side....do you guys think i have to split my cases and re-seal it?? also it never did it before tonight. also when i spray soapy water on it nothing happens......what the hell...thanks

I would do a lead down test to be 100% sure, but sounds like you need to reseal the cases. You'll want to get a new set of gaskets and seals when you do it.

is this a "common" thing to have to do? Its just so damn wierd, it seems like whenever i put something new on to fix something thats broke something else breaks...im so pist, i love my shee but i am about to give up it seems like the most unreliable thing i have ever owned i have maybe 10 hours on this damn thing since getting it its deppressing

I haven't seen a lot of them have problems where the cases are glued together if done right, usually base gaskets, reed gaskets, torn intake boots or crank seals are where they form air leaks. Yea they can be a tinker toy at times, but for me that's half the fun.

it is fun to work on them dont get me wrong but i had plans for the weekend to go to the dunes and now its not going to happen...also the money factor is killing me. What do you think will happen if i just leave it...prolly not a good idea im guessing. What do you think would cause it to start leaking now? so if i split the cases and put new seals in and use a good gasket maker i should be good to go right? thanks..i have tommarow through tuesday off of work so i can pull the engine and start tearing it down if the leak is a must fix. Also is there any tips anyone will have for me when i split the cases...i will need a flywheel puller also right?

It'll cost you about $70 for the seals, gaskets, puller and threebond. About 4-6 hours to do it. Yes you need to pull your flywheel to get the stator plate off and the left crank seal, you'll need access to an impact gun to get the gears off for the right seal. you will also have to pull your clutch off (there is a strap behind it with one screw in each case half. The pistons also have to come off to pull the top case off. I'm pretty sure there is a case splitting thread pinned on here. hope that all helps.

I feel for ya bro! You could do it pretty quick, the banshee cases are a snap to split since the crank bearings aren't pressed into the halves like our single cylinder bretheren.

yeah man if i didnt have bad luck i wouldnt have any at all! with a little luck my crank bearings wont be shot...how do i check them, and also should i pressure wash the engine before i start to take it apart?.....i have a question about my oil leak also...i dont know if you will know what im talking about but on the stator side and on the clutch side on the bottom of the case there are like indetations...like a hole drilled in them...thats where my shee is leaking gear oil...what are these holes or w/e they are?

Sorry bud, even went out to the shop and looked at some cases.... couldn't figure out what indentations you were talking about. Are you certain it's not running from the top of your case through the drain holes (fuel/oil)??? It can get pretty thick once the gas evaporates off and it will drip through the drain holes. Sorry I can't help you better with this one.

i am 100% sure that it is gear oil...i ran it while i was under it and saw where its comming from...the things im talking about...the best way i can describe them are they look like there drilled holes but there not drilled all the way through...they are centenered front to back and are on the outer sides of the lower case, one on the clutch side and one on the stator side...i will try to get you a pic...also should i get my crank welded since it will be out? thanks
