Before i get into explaining what Toluen is i'll wait till i see someone actually recognize it. But this shit is very very hard to come by and it works wonders on cleaning plastics if there not painted.

never mind I was wrong I was thinking of poluene are something like that.....

This is what toluene

known as methylbenzene or phenylmethane, is a clear, water-insoluble liquid with the typical smell of paint thinners, redolent of the sweet smell of the related compound benzene. It is an aromatic hydrocarbon that is widely used as an industrial feedstock and as a solvent.

I also read something, acetone, pure acetone, put in the fuel tank of your car will give you a substantial increase in gas mileage...it gives you a more complete burn, or something like that...

It was like 4 ounces per 20 gallons, I think....

Is that what you're thinking of, Brad..?

I know Toulene is an ingredient in race fuels, maybe firehead will chime in...

if its the toluene Im thinking of its a fuel adder that will add oxygen to your fuel for increased performance.

You're thinking of propylene oxide probably.

As an aside, didn't we have a weird thread last week in this same forum about tolulene?

Tolulene is most popularly an industriual solvent. Small percentages of acetone and tolulene can be found in gasoline. If there is a higher than natural concentration on these chemicals in a sample of gasoline, it has usually been added by the manufacturer as part of a detergent package.

Acetone and Tolulene are very similair when burned in a comcustion cycle in that they have a faster burn rate than gasoline. I doubt there is any proof or logic behind someone adding either chemical to their fuel and getting better mileage or performance unless they happen to have some major fuild system blockage issues that these solvents just happen to break up. Additionally, these solvents will generally adjust the emissions of your vehicle and will definitely harm/destroy oxygen sensors and catalysts.

On a more simplistic note, you don't see anyone who actually knows what they are doing pouring either solvent in their gas tank.

FYI: If you need to pass a state emissions test in gasoline engine, you need to run a 50/50 mix of M85 and low octane gasoline. Of course you will then have to pray that none of your emissions equipment freaks out and/or dies when you do it.

Dave I was thinking of Propylene. There where a couple guys at our track that has run it before and they seen a difference.

Rudy Kurtz even said he seen up to a 2 tenths of a gain when using it.

Gotcha....

Your track doesn't allow methanol, does it Brad? Or is it the class you run in?

It's a whole new ball game, that's for sure...I just wasted a piston learning myself, a lot of others have made much more expensive mistakes than that...:)

It does it the one top gas or top fuel quad class just cant remember which one it is. anyways there will be no fuel tester for the next 2 races and I would like to try it myself. I mean what the hell there are a couple guys that run nitro when there is no tester so I mise as well try it.

An fuel oxygenate is a good way to turn a good running engine into a solid chucnk of metal. Y'all ought to atleast read a bit about it before using it. Getting fuel mixing advice from Jim-Bob and his sister-mom doesn't usually hack it.

well you are a fuel expert. what would you recomend mixing with gas to increase performance

I am by no means a fuel expert, I just happen to know a handful of interesting things about fuels.

If you are interested in a simple power adding solution try some VP U2 fuel. It already has an oxygenate blended into it.

The trick about blending oxygenates and nitromethane is that you really need to know the specific gravity of what you are mixing as well as the purity of the fluids. These are things that are over most folks heads, however if you are a gmabling person then you can do the old fashioned mix a small amount to start out with and increase the mixture to comfortable level. Either way, turn key consistancy isn't there nor is inherant reliability (i.e. you might screw up and add some extra holes to you engine. :geek:
