hey whats up guys, I just picked up my first banshee, its a 2000 with a cool head and FMF exhaust, other than that its stock. It looks like it was really taken care of, and the owner claims he did persistant maintance, and I can definately tell. But i'm new to the whole quad world, and 2 stroke world in general. So what kind of maintance tips do you guys have for me. I need to know what kind of maintance I have to do regularly, and any other tips you guys wanna share. Is there something I should check, or do before I ride it? check fluids, change fluids, anything?

This bike is near mint, and I would like to keep it that way, and running that way. Its just i'm a little unexperienced on the whole 2 stroke world, so I would appreciate some filling in here...

Thanks in advance...

i'm not a junkie that rebuilds the top end once or more a year, or changes tranny oil after every ride, but i do try to take care of mine also.

before each ride...

- check tranny oil

- check coolant level

- check chain tension and sprockets

- check tires

- make sure your gas is mixed before adding, lol

after each ride...

- normal washing

- check / clean filter and air box(especially after dusty or muddy rides)

- make sure radiator fins are clean for air flow

occasionally...

- check shock bushings

- check a-arm bushings

- check rear linkage bushings

- check swing arm bushings

- check rear axle bearings

- check compression

- clean carbs and re sync

- grease all fittings

- lube cables

- check brake pads / rotors

- change tranny oil (depending on riding time)

- change antifreeze 1 / year for me

- do a plug chop to check jetting

that's about all i can think of at the moment, it's after midnight, lol.

do a compression test I learned that when i bought a mint banshee and it turned out it needed a top end rebuild. along with the upkeep by some go fast goodies... then it all begins...

what should the compression be?

It depends on what size domes you have in your cool head a stock head runs around 130 psi but like i said tell us what size your domes are to get a better idea of what type of compression numbers you should have

it also depends on elevation.

I think they are the 22cc...you have to run preminum with it, but not race gas. So the compression isn't sky high. I searched around a little bit, sounds like it should be in the 140-150 range with these domes. I'll take a look at what mine reads..hopefully its around there..
