BumpaD_Z28 Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 the 'Shee I just purchased has newly installed BR9ES's.. and it seems to run good, start well, etc. etc. etc. -BUT- is there any reason NOT to go back to the B8ES or BR8ES plug ??? the engine is only lightly modded: milled head, lightened flywheel, +4 timing Also does altitude effect plug choice ??? I'm in UT at 4700+ feet with the density altitude over 6500-8000 on most days... I need to get some extra and want to know what to get ! TIA ~DaVe Quote
dajogejr Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 BR8ES are what you need to run all day long. You're not doing anything for yourself by running 9s...unless that bike is on alky. I'm going to assume you have pipes and properly jetted carbs (good luck at that big of altitude changes) along with the other bolt on mods. Next is porting on your cylinder. BigRed350X rides in Wyoming I think, and he's high as a mofo. (Elevation, that is...) He can probably chime in and give more advice on how to combat the high elevation performance robbing blues.... Take it away, J... Quote
wilDuner Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 I live in north CO (about 5200 ft.)and have mild mods on my shee. I have always run the br8eg for over three years. the only diferance is the "S" stands for steal and the "G" stands for gold electrodes. the bike will run cleaner and the plug should last longer if the carbs are in tune. They are a little more money but its worth it. If you want to spend even more money for a little more power get the BR8EIX, these are iridium and at about 8.00 a plug they can get very expensive. If the you are tuning the bike don't waste your money on the BR8EIX, only use these when you know your tune is good and you need a little extra. Quote

I had a 421 cub last year, going bigger now. It was in perfect tune....and there wasn't a lick of difference. And I bought two of the Irridiums just to see...waste of money in my opinion. And this was with a Nology Coil and Hotwires, and a Dyna Ignition. If that setup can't take advantage of a good spark plug, I don't know what can!!! Quote
theshee Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 I live in wyoming from 5000-8000 feet and run BR9EIX I wont run anything but a Iriduim plug. I think they are worth the extra 2 bucks. Im not sure if they make a whole lot of difference in power, but I like em. Quote

theshee Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Yeah, I got my iriduim plugs on ebay for like 5 bucks each... I guess it would be 3 bucks, because normal ones are 2.09 in RMATV. Quote

He he...or 1.79 or 1.89 at Pep Boys... To each is own...I just wasn't impressed with them in my cub at all!! For 5 bucks, I guess if it's a mental advantage... Quote
theshee Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 What ever works for you I guess... By the time I drove to pep boys I would have burned 15 bucks in gas, so thats one reason they are cheaper for me. I can order stuff way cheaper then driving 50 miles one way to town to get anything. BumpaD_Z28 Posted February 15, 2007 Author Report Posted February 15, 2007 Well I went to Checkers (local) here and got some BR8ES's for $1.99 each.... I think I will change out the BR9ES's and put them on the bike as riding spares (since I KNOW this set runs).. then order up some more BR8ES's next RMATV order (1.79 each) for the toolbox/garage extra's THANKS guys  ~DaVe Quote
