tyguy Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 hey guys im redoing my whole shee, paint frame and motor. i got my head milled like i have b4 but this one he took off allll the lip. i put it together and i heard the pistons hitting the head (rolled it over by hand) but not very much. so i took another head gasket(new one) i had laying around and put in there with the other one, now the clearance is perfect, has anybody done this, Quote
woodro77 Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 i think you should buy a new head a get it milled by someone that knows what hes doing , or buy a cool head , using 2 head gaskets even if it works now will be problems down the road Quote
dajogejr Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 Get a new head...or have that one re machined (the domes)...You can still cut combustion chambers out of that head. How do you know the clearance is perfect? Because it doesn't hit...or because you checked the squish? Normally, you adjust the squish clearance by thicker/thinner base gaskets..but, if the head is that cut down, it's probably easiest to get a new stocker and have someone that KNOWS what they're doing cut it a little... tyguy Posted January 1, 2007 Author Report Posted January 1, 2007 ok thanks, im was going to grab a stocker, but i wasnt sure if it would be safe to run it for a couple easy rides. it was hitting just a bit b4 and now with two gaskets its perfect., so they make thicker base gaskets? wouldnt that be fine too? yeah he took off to much off. just a bit. whats the max that should be taken off?
