I have a question for anyone who knows much about 250r's. I got some new front wheel bearings for it and while I was changing em, I've ran into some trouble. I got one side off and the bolts holding the brake caliper on were almost impossible to break loose. the other side I had no luck with and striped the allen bolts out. tried welding a bolt on em to break em loose, still no luck. so I un bolted the spindle from the a-arms and put the thing in a vise to man handle the bitches out, but still nothing has worked yet. and I screwed up big time I think cause I tried taking a sawsall and cutting the bolt heads off so the caliper would come off and then I was just gonna drill out the bolts and re-tap the holes in the spindle. but I dont think it will work so I guess I just screwed up :flush: .

So for my question, will 400ex spindles/hubs/calipers work on a 86' 250r? for example, could I use 400ex spindle and use the 250r caliper and hub? I know this is bansheehq :notworthy: , but I havent looked for any 250r sites yet and I thought someone here could help atleast, thanks

I've been told the 400ex calipers will bolt right, but I think all the EX's used a single piston caliper if I remember right. I know the R uses a dual. I think the spindles and hubs are close enough that they'll fit, but not 100% positive. If you want I think I still have a complete front end floating around yet with good hubs and spindles from an '87 yet I'll sell ya. took them off my '88 cause the ball joints and tie rods were toast. My buddy deals in used parts and got me a good full front end and I just swapped the whole thing out. Let me know if ya want them. I'll dig them out and get a few pix. might have an extra set of calipers yet too.

400ex spindles will bolt up to your a-arms, but.... the '86 and '87 250r hubs won't work with the 400ex spindles. '88 and '89 hubs will work with the 400ex spindles tho.

And the brakes.... you'll either need to run 400ex front brake calipers with the 400ex spindles or buy caliper adaptors to bolt your 250r calipers to the 400ex spindles, these caliper adapters cost...... hold on... wait for it.... ..... ... $200 bucks

:o no way im doin that. Thanks for all the replies here, this was exactly the info I was lookin for. damn it sucks that I had to screw this shit up just to change some wheel bearings. I guess though, that it would be easier to just find some cheap 400ex spindles/hubs/ and maybe calipers to use, since its easier to find EX parts. the 400ex spindles do look pretty stout though, maybe thats why alot of guys with 250r's use em?

but one more quick question, I plan on getting new tie rods and ends later on, would I need to order 250r or 400ex tie rods if I had 400ex spindles?

I'm not 100%, you might want to double check w/ a dealer, If I remember correctly the R's and the 400ex all use the same rod ( I think the 300 and 250ex's use a different length), but all the sport Hondas(R's and EX's) use the same ends.
