endofitall9 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Been searching for like 1.5 hrs with nothing but idiotic answers to legit questions nobody seems to really know how this seal goes on. you get people saying.." I have a seal that has manufacturing marks on both sides and no green mark so how does this seal go on"? Then someone answers " You have to split the cases toput the seal on". Sorry Just a little frustrated from this big mess.. Nobody seems to know. I have the K&S crank seals and on the stator side crank seal. I can't remember how it goes. Yes there is springs on both sides, yes it has manu. marks on both sides but on one side the marks are on the inside and on the other they are on the outside. also one one side is is smooth and on the otheside it has like pits in it. anyone really know. thanksa lot Josh Quote
trail rider Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Well, the way I see it is, to correctly replace the seal you have to split the cases (takes like 5 or 10 mins if you know how, cause its very simple ) . the seal has a little groove where it fits in the case in front of the crank bearing. And I would think if you tried just forcing it in without the cases split, it would just fuck the seal up and it would leak. if the seal looks the same on both sides or has manuf. marks on both sides, then it shouldnt matter which way you put it in or it would specificly say so in the instructions or something. Hilarious Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 Here's what I think the Cylmer's says: To install the left-hand oil seal: a. the left-hand oil seal has its manufacturer's marks imprinted on one side and a green mark on the other side. b. Install the oil seal onto the fucking crankshaft so that the side with the green mark faces toward the outside (away from the fucking crankshaft). To install the right-hand oil seal: a. The right-hand oil seal has notches on one side. b. Install the oil seal onto the fucking crankshaft so that the notches face toward the inside (against the fucking crankshaft). Hope this helps as I will be in the same boat as you when my new fucking crankshaft gets here. Quote
endofitall9 Posted May 10, 2006 Author Report Posted May 10, 2006 i got the Manual no help on this seal.. the stator side seal has notches on one side like the right hand side but thy'yre like down in it not exposed like the other seal. i have 2 other blown cranks i looked at them and just put the notches facing againt the crankshaft. they were all built by me. I've just been working on so many piece of shit thumpers that I can't remeber how my own shit goes. its brandnew motor top to bottom with porting crank everything just hate to see it blow because of a seal being in wrong Quote
Hilarious Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 Oh snap! Sorry man. And here I thought I was helpin someone out. You say your stator side (small) seal is notched just like the clutch (big) side? I just got to lookin at mines. The damn seal almost looks identical on both sides. The side that goes into the engine, has some yellowish green stripes around the outer lip. On the other side, looks like some small indentures around the inside of the seal. Shit, hopefully a builder will see this thread. Keep me informed as to what you find out. Quote
