reginal98 Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 I am in the process of doing a DC Conversion with a 200w Ricky Stator. I am going to run 4 Trail Techs (2 - 35w Floods - stock location and 2-50w Spots handelbar mounted). What I was worried about is I want to hook them up to the stock lighting switch so I don't have to run all new wires but I notice the stock lighting wires are pretty damn small gauge. Should I be worried about frying something? Melting the stock wires even? Any advise before I continue!! Thanks!!! Quote
Wallrat Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Its such a short distance that it aint a problem. I did the DC conversion and am running Trailtech's dual 35w HID's. Justintoxicated has the same setup as me but he's running 4 of the 35w HID's - but he's not running them through the stock switch. Lots of guys are running high wattage lights thru the stock switch/wiring w/ no problems. Quote
troy.s Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 The small gauge wires and stock switch may hurt the performance of your lights. The wires will not 'fry', but the switch could eventually burn up its contacts. If you want to keep the stock switch and get max performance from your lights, I highly recommend you use some 12 gauge wire for power supply to your lights, and wire in a relay. If don't know how to wire in the relay, just reply back. Quote

Wallrat Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Relay's are pretty easy to figure out. Basically they've got a 12v in (usually labelled 30A. Connect that lead to the positive side of the battery. Then straight across from that is the ground. For the 2 other leads, one goes to positive on the switch, the other to the positive on the componant you wanna run. There's also 5 prong relays available for running several relays in series but you don't need that. Bosch relays run about $5 or so. Quote
RNBRAD Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 I always keep this link handy. I've used them many times but always forget. LINK Quote
