gear shift problems

I'm having a problem changing down gears. when i go to shift down, i actually have to lift the lever up before it will allow me to change down.

is this a common problem and whats the fix?

SOunds like shift shaft is messed up or your eccentric screw that the shift shaft snaps over is loose. Click on my user name and give us a call , i will walk through it with you!!!
