just wondering id anyone has heard something similar that has happened to a buddy of mine

..he recently seized the piston and after disassembling we found that the motor was basically starved from oil because of a label that somehow fell off of the stator and got stuck in some type of oil screen...they are going to try and see what yamaha could do but who knows..

any feedback is appreciated

Sounds like a fluke.

I do know a guy that works at a yamaha honda service shop, that got a YFZ 450 when they first came out, and some farm boy had it, and just ran through some water, and the bike caught on fire somewhere aorund the engine, and the bike pretty much was spent. He called yamaha, and he said they were all over that bike, and gave him a brand new one. He thought they were worried it would worry other customers wanting to buy one.

On the earlier models there were actualy quite a few cases about something failing and causing the bike to burn down. As far as the 450 getting fixed for the seized piston good luck, they will more than likely say that it didnt have fequent enough oil changes and call it operaton error or some shit like that. Read what quite a few people have been going thru http://www.yfzcentral.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=14373

I have heard of this. My buddy's locked up and I started the tear down, he call up yamaha and they told him to bring it in, i out it back together (had just got the motor off), they covered it ever though it had no oil or anti-freeze in it, so ur not the only one. I dont know what actually cause it to lock up yet.
